C, because of Andrew Robinson, would have been lower otherwise. I see I’m not the only one who thinks that, ha.
Oh yeah and it’s funny watching this episode now as a 45 year old. I was a teen when this first came out. And god, I wish I was still 30. So many things I would do differently. 😭
Yeah, I tend to skip this one so I basically watched it when I was 14 and 44 now and I think I hate Bashir both ways. lol either way I wish I was 30
I agree with it being somewhere between a C and a D. There are things I like but it could have been better with some rewrites. This episode along with Meridian, Prophet Motive and one other upcoming episode are at the bottom of this season for me. The other 22 episodes get a thumbs up. So overall its a good season and a general improvement over season 2.
Definitely a C-tier for me. Not great. One of the low points of the season (for me).
Eh. It's fine. It's hardly new for shows to do mindscape stories that conveniently use existing sets. For ol' Siddig taking the budget saving L, we had some fun moments with everyone around Bashir.
It's a C. Back in the day I would have probably said it was a D. It had some decent ideas, but like y'all said it maybe needed a rewrite.
Frame of Mind Lite: A(-). I love it. Episodes like this (and Babel / Dramatis Personae) are just fun to watch after all that Dark Dominion stuff.
C-tier for me. Mediocre and forgettable, but I agree with another Patron who said that Garak keeps it out of D-tier.
No Just .... no
My favourite part is when the tennis balls come out of the cupboard and I don't think I was supposed to be laughing at that.
This one's a D for me, even though I'm a Bashir fan and a huge Garak fan. I've decided that's the rating I'm giving to any episode that I automatically skip when re-watching DS9 but that isn't so bad that I'd wish it out of existence. It's not that it's bad, necessarily, and it does have some good moments, mostly because Garak. It's just not engaging, the "twist" is obvious, and the characters acting out-of-character in Bashir's vision (even when I know that they're not the "real" characters) bothers me and appeared to confuse the actors, too. And, perhaps weirdly, the idea that Bashir is freaking out and being a rude, nasty brat just because he's turning 30 really turns me off, and it did when the show was in its original run, back when I myself was turning 30. That colors the whole episode for me. The old-age makeup was actually good for its time -- I believe the episode won an Emmy for makeup, if I recall correctly -- but I imagine it'd look pretty bad if the series could be remastered.
I like Siddig's old man acting. I wish they saved Garek for good episodes only. Even he gets a bit tarnished by being involved in some weak to poor episodes.
I skip this on rewatches
Wow at all the Es.
Didn't even watch the reaction I dislike this episode so much 😅 I can take a silly premise, I can take dodgy make-up, I can take half-hearted acting... What I can't take is an incredibly obvious "twist" that's portrayed as if it's mind-blowing. Don't talk down to the viewers, we hate that!
As a defector I like this one. Very twilight zone but in a good way. Old age makeup doesn’t bother me, my eyesight issues don’t have a problem with it
C. This is saved from a D by the amount of Garak we get.
