Simmer Talk: Pack light save heavy

Back up your game before it backs out on you.

Heyyy — happy Black History Month and welcome to the final stretch of cuffing season ‹/𝟹.
There’s been a lot going on in the Sims community lately (I see it, Keith lee voice* I’m gonna speak on it soon), but today we’re keeping it short and focused. This Simmer Talk is all about the upcoming February 3rd update — and what you need to do before it drops.

First and foremost:
🗁 back. up. your. game.
That means your saves and your tray files — don’t play with your legacies, your builds, or your modded families. This update is targeting core family systems, and even EA is telling us mods are gonna break...

Now let’s get into what’s coming and what’s being worked on.

from the sims

On February 3, The Sims team is rolling out a base game update focused on family trees, genealogy, and relationship data. The goal is to improve how Sims’ family connections are tracked and displayed — so if you’re a generational or legacy player, this will touch almost every part of your save.

Because these changes go deep into the game’s core systems, mods that touch relationships, family dynamics, or generational logic may break. EA has warned of missing relatives, broken family trees, and weird relationship bugs if you update with those mods still installed. In rare cases, your save file itself could be damaged.

If you use mods that touch anything related to lineage or family systems, please remove them before February 3 and wait for your favorite creators to confirm they’re safe to use again.

For mod creators, EA has dropped a list of Python changes in the EA Forums to help with compatibility.

investigation

EA says they’re shifting from monthly save file investigations to focusing on long-term prevention — which means future updates about save stability will show up in patch notes and the Laundry List instead.

Since September, they’ve been working on backend systems like Scratch Files and rental cheats to stabilize saves. Some progress has been made, but they’re still watching for reports.

current fixes

Here’s what’s confirmed for the next update:

⟢ Photos are no longer developing into darkness.
⟢ Likes, dislikes, turn-ons… your Sims remember now.
⟢ Build Mode stopped blacking out during Scenarios.
⟢ Mermaids and aliens are editable again. We’re safe.
⟢ Toilets finally know what room they belong in.
⟢ Extra stair planks have been evicted.
⟢ Skill books stopped showing up in disguise.
⟢ One nail set isn’t metal-coating entire bodies anymore.
⟢ Great-grandparents are no longer romantically available.
⟢ Nails aren’t glitching your Sim’s upper arms.
⟢ Prom goals are actually completable now.
⟢ Vacuums work off-grid. Logic not included.

community fixies

These issues are being investigated — no fix confirmed yet, but EA says they’re actively working on them:

⟢ Eyelids still not doing what eyelids should do. They’re trying though.
⟢ Pets and horses still vanishing from households like they saw something they shouldn’t.
⟢ Randoms still showing up in your convos like they were invited.
⟢ Animals still getting stuck in inventories. Like emotional baggage.
⟢ Sims still obsessed with mirrors and sinks. Therapy not included (yet).

the real talk

I haven’t said much about the new Royalty & Legacy pack — and truthfully? I’m good on that. I’ve said what I needed to say, and I’m not in a season where I want to stand behind EA’s long-term vision. What I do stand behind is y’all — this community, the content we create, and the joy we find in it.

If you caught my recent post, you already know — I’m slowly shifting into more tech, more cozy life-sim games, and a broader creative lane (streaming and youtube comingsoon). Simbeautyguru was never just about The Sims. It’s about the vibe, the vision, and what brings joy and faith in our digital little lives. You’ll still see Sims content. But you’ll also see more of Ashley: her faith, her gameplay, and the curiosity that fuels it.

And yes — Simmer Talk is very much still in rotation. That’s not going anywhere. We’ll keep slowing the noise down together. Just with a little more range now.

Until next time — stay inspired & back up your game.
No butttt seriously: copy your saves, your tray files, your grandmother’s legacies — put it all in a folder and drag it to your desktop like you're guarding state secrets. Or unplug your ethernet cord and play like it’s Sims 2. Either way, protect your stuff.

Thank you so much! I really love this little part of the internet that not just I, but all of us have contributed to. It is my hope that the more you discover in the Sims community, the more you enjoy it here, not just with me but with everyone. ♡
