The Mark of Four

Jason flicks the light on and off. One, two, three, four.

He closes the door behind him. Opens it, locks it. One, two, three, four.

He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath. He's safe now. His anxieties, his problems, his demons are locked away inside. The outside world awaits.

The demon shifts inside the apartment. It hates the dark, but the light switch burns. The mark of four keeps it at bay.

When it tries to escape outside, the doorknob burns. The mark of four again.

So the demon waits, and hopes that one day Jason will forget.
