Welcome to Riverrun: Early Lot Tour + Meet Our First Residents

In one of my recent posts, I shared an outline of the village's amenities, but I've spent the last few weeks building out some of the interiors and feel good enough about them to share an early tour with you guys! ✨

I've uploaded a video walkthrough 🎥👆 above with commentary on world lore, plans for the builds and a few of its residents, a couple of mods I'm using, + the creative thinking around each of the completed spaces. It's my first time sharing a video like this, so please excuse any extra um's, kinda's, or wayward trains of thought (squirrel!). 🤍

In addition to the tour, I'm sharing some lore below + a few exclusive screenshots and a brief introduction to Riverrun's first residents.

Read on, adventurer!

First–step into another world with me:

A cool autumn breeze ruffles your hair as you take in the sounds around you: the distant clang of hammer meeting steel. The steady drum of hooves and the groaning weight of a wagon as it passes you on the road. The unending dip-and-clunk of a water wheel, broken only briefly by the laughter of patrons who stumble out of the tavern on the hill.

It finds you then, on your next breath–the savory aromas of freshly baked breads, cooked meats, and decadent spices beckoning you forward. Your boots crunch over the gravel underfoot, taking you past the town's weather-worn sign, its painted letters reading, 'Welcome to Riverrun.'

Half a day's ride from the capital and you'll find yourself in the quiet reprieve of Riverrun, a waterside town just off the Golden Circle, the realm's primary trade route. It's a small village, but not as small as they come. It offers everything the bold adventurer or wary traveler might need–rest, a warm meal, provisions.

The company, however, may be wanting 👀 The locals can be friendly enough, aye, but those who stop in Riverrun hail from every corner of the realm, bringing their secrets with them. Humans, fae, and dark fae alike. You never know who you'll run into, or what trouble they might cause if you stare just a little too long.

Meet Riverrun's First Residents

Although tensions are still high between the human and fae realms, trading towns like Riverrun are more diverse than the surrounding peasant villages and homesteads. Several of its residents are fae who have lived in the human realm since long before the wars began–a time of peace 🕊️ that no human alive remembers.

I imagine Riverrun to have a well-rounded set of characters with a broad range of features across each character that are as memorable as the backstories, secrets, and motives I plan out for them. But, seeing as I'm still in the building stages of this village, I needed a starter family to help me play-test the lot to make sure objects aren't in the way, mods are working, and that the spaces are fully functional.

Cue: Riverrun's first family. Surname pending, allow me to introduce to you: Serana* and Bjorn + their two children, Evander and Anja.

I recently shared a little of their backstory here, but Serana and Bjorn currently run the local tavern together. Serana is a boisterous and sometimes terrifying tavern wench who isn't afraid to put strangers in line. As her partner, Bjorn aids her by staring everyone down with a murderous look from behind the bar that makes (most) people think twice about starting trouble. At his size and with her temper, you don't want to know what these two are capable of when they're actually mad. 😳

Now, we're all wondering how any sort of romance ever bloomed between these two, when Bjorn has the personality of a rock: rarely says a word, choosing to grunt his approval (or disapproval) rather than speak; and hardly ever smiles, scowling as he cleans tankards and tends drinks from behind the bar, while his wife can be heard from over the din of the tavern, laughing with new patrons or reminiscing with the locals, known–and loved–for making everyone feel right at home.

We can only assume there's more to them than meets the eye, and that Serana sees something in Bjorn that we don't (more on that later. 😉). Together they have two children, Evander and Anja, whom are pretty well summed up by the picture below 👇😂

I mentioned that I've been play-testing the lot with them, and so far, let me tell you: Evander is showing signs of becoming an absolute troublemaker when he's older 🤦‍♀️ Telling lies at school. Tormenting the traveling tradesmen. Pickpocketing his own sister. He's either going to become a regular Robin Hood or...he'll end up on the wrong side of the law.

Anja has a little of that rebel in her, too, but her head is so far in the clouds that she spends more time daydreaming of escaping her life and marrying a handsome prince. And not just any prince, but a fae prince 👑🧚‍♂️. A forbidden love, in a forbidden land. Heedless of the countless warnings her mother has given her of their brutality, treachery, and magical debauchery, Anja believes that she's destined to leave Riverrun in pursuit of something–love, success, adventure? Maybe all of it.

Or maybe none of it, if Serana gets her way.

Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this peek into Riverrun–more to come!

Comments are welcome, but 🛑 please no WCIF's 🛑 I will post my medieval cc finds separately at a later date.

Hi! Aw I'm so so sorry to keep you waiting so long. I meant to get this out but then ran into gameplay issues while testing the lot, then ran into patch issues, then I had to wait for mods to get updated so I could properly test again and all that has kept me out of the save for a few months. I will prioritize getting this out next. Promise!!

I'm so sorry I didn't see your comment!! Just to update you: I'm prepping the lot this weekend for export and I'm aiming to have it up by end of next week at the latest. Thank you so much for your patience all these months. I ran into a knot of patch and mod issues that kept me locked out of the save far longer than I wanted to be.
