Turning The Sims 4 Into a Fantasy Medieval RPG ๐Ÿฐย

*cue the lute*

Hey friends! I hope your week is off to a good start.

I'm so excited to be sharing this with you today. It's the first entry into my new Save File Diaries series here on Patreon. While I wasn't originally planning to kick off this series with my medieval save, with the release of Enchanted by Nature and after watching this Rags to Riches series, I've been feeling super inspired to build a magical, kinda-GOT, kinda-BG3, kinda-Witcher save of my own.

Let's dive in! ๐Ÿ‘‡

As you might imagine, there are a lot of challenges that come with creating an immersive medieval experience when your Sims are getting phone calls & text messages instead of courier ravens, but after adventuring into every corner of the internet for the best medieval mods and CC, I think I'm on the right track to creating a pretty exciting world that's:

  • ๐Ÿฐ Ripe with interesting and magical places to visit

  • ๐Ÿฆ„ Alive with characters (and creatures) you might never expect to see in The Sims

  • ๐ŸŒณ Fully TOOL'd to death with landscaping to hide unwanted scenery*

  • ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Prepped for gameplay with some amazing medieval mods

  • ๐ŸŽฅ. Gameplay-tested for some future Let's Plays ๐Ÿ‘€

*Since I'm too lazy to use the blowtorch method.

Worldbuilding: Location, location, location!

First thing's first, in planning this save I wanted to get crystal clear on which maps I would be using. Since I have ADHD and get as equally excited as I do overwhelmed ๐Ÿ˜ฐ, I knew I had to nail down which worlds would best suit the stories I want to write.

Here's what we're looking at right now:

  • ๐Ÿ‘ Henford-on-Bagley โ€“ Human Kingdom โ€“ Forests & The Riverlands

  • ๐Ÿฐ Windenburg โ€“ Human Kingdom โ€“ Capital City

  • ๐ŸŒฒ Moodwood Mills โ€“ Human Kingdom โ€“ Wildwood

  • ๐Ÿงš๐Ÿผ Innisgreen โ€“ Fae Kingdom โ€“ Land of Enchantment

  • ๐Ÿ”ฎ Ravenwood โ€“ Unclaimed โ€“ Land of Curses & Dark Magic

  • ๐Ÿฒ Forgotten Hollow โ€“ Unclaimed โ€“ Land of Dragons & Myths

For simplicity's sake, I won't be using ALL of the lots in every world, but rather select locations for key lots that I know I'll need in my story and that will be exciting to explore during my Let's Plays. I'm in the process of mapping out these lots by drawing my own medieval maps for each world! Pictures of that coming soon.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Save Hack: Each of these worlds will get their own unique name in game using this mod!

First Look: An Unlikely Band of Exiles

This world is going to be gritty, wild, magical, and richly complex, so I want to create a variety of different races, creatures, and monsters who bring those elements to life. Fae, humans, dwarves, orcs, sorcerers, unicorns, satyrs, mermaids, elementals, vampires, werewolves, demons. They're all here to add intrigue, danger, and magic to the world, and each will have their own role to play. ๐Ÿช„

I decided to start in the forest with an unlikely band of exiles: a half-orc, a dwarf, and an elf. Each with their own dark secrets, this nomadic trio has banded together for survival, on the run from the bounties placed on their heads and the bounty hunters who want a payday, traveling together improves their odds of reaching the border into the fae wilds where humans never dare to ventureโ€“and freedom awaits.

Or so they hope.

Now let me tell you...it's actually so challenging to make a non-human Sim ๐Ÿ˜‚ I ran into several issues: they looked too cartoony or human, their designs didn't work well with in-game animations, and you can only make a Sim so short. But after hours of tweaking, we finally have our first 3 characters for this save file. (And yes! I do plan to share them with my patrons here.)

These guys also needed a means of travel ๐Ÿด Meet Tash, Ayda, and Ymir (or their butts anyway ๐Ÿ˜‚) Can you guess which horse belongs to which character?
