Updated 2/12/26 - Fixes a handful of issues such as the ghosts icon being incorrect, allows you to confess to being a fairy and ghost, and limits the fairy powers to only trigger a reaction when they're in fairy form. I've also split the mod into separate parts - so you can download only vampires but no ghosts, etc., and the objects and icons are now merged into the core mod file for clarity on what is necessary and what is optional.

This mod now also requires Zerbu's Custom Preferences mod.

It's always bothered me that EA didn't make a firm decision on whether human Sims should know Occult Sims or real or not. Secret Occults is my answer to that. With this mod, your Sims choose to believe in occults or not, try to convince others to share their beliefs, and ultimately find out the truth for themselves.

For the purposes of this mod, Ghosts have not been included, but Vampires, Werewolves, Spellcasters, Mermaids, and Aliens have been supported. You need at least one of the associated packs, but of course it will be more immersive if you have many occult types.

Core Features

Sims are auto-assigned one of three traits when you load into the game: "Believes in the Occult", "Does Not Believe in the Occult", or "Has Witnessed the Occult". Occult Sims will automatically know that they are real, but you can change other Sims preferences by shift-clicking on your Sim and locating the Secret Occults pie menu. Most Sims will not believe, but about 20% will.
Sims can discover magic is real by interacting with Occult Sims, depending on their type. Swimming close enough to a mermaid to see their tail will work as proof, or being abducted by aliens, or seeing a werewolf in their were-form. For vampires, seeing them drink plasma from a sim will work, or spellcasters using magic is also proof.
Sims may react to other strange (but not obviously magical) things occult sims do, such as werewolves howling, or vampires existing in their dark form.
There are new social interactions that appear under different circumstances. You can "Convince to Believe in Occult Sims" or "Convince to Stop Believing in Occult Sims", "Ask Occult Status", and "Ask Occult Beliefs". You can also confess to being a vampire, werewolf, alien, etc.
There is a new personality trait: "Occult Enthusiast". Occult Enthusiasts enjoy interacting with Occult Sims and can Enthuse About Occult Lore with other Sims. They also never develop a Fear of the Occult.
There is a new fear: Fear of the Occult. This develops from mean interactions with a known Occult Sim, and can be fixed by Discussing Occult Fears with a friendly Occult Sim.
Sims can like or dislike each occult type, and will get buffs when interacting or close to their liked or disliked occult type. Occult Sims will also get occasional buffs if they like or dislike their own occult type.
There are two new aspirations: Occult Enthusiast and Occult Discovery. Sims who complete the Occult Discovery aspiration gain fame, money, and receive periodic fan mail from being the first Sim to prove occults are real. Sims who complete the Occult Enthusiast aspiration gain all magical skills much more quickly and gain friendship when meeting other occults.
There is a new book: the Occult Knowledge Compendium. Your Sims can get focused buffs from reading it, and it can be purchased from any Bookshelf.
One of the packages overrides a few in-game interactions to make more sense with the mod, such as deleting the "Ask If Mermaid" interaction, because it has been replaced by the "Ask Occult Status" interaction. If you'd rather keep the in-game tuning files intact, you can delete the JS_SecretOccults_Interaction_Overrides package -- just know that some in game things may not make complete sense with the mod.

Requirements/Installation

Please extract and drop the containing folder directly in your mods folder, not in any subfolders. This mod requires at least one pack containing an occult type, such as Vampires, Realm of Magic, or Island Living. It also requires the XML Injector. If you do not already have a copy in your game, you can get it here. You do not need more than one copy.

* As of the latest patch, this mod also requires Zerbu's Custom Preferences Mod. *

Future Plans

This is a mod I would like to continue expanding over time. Right now it has only what I consider to be the most core features. If you have thoughts, wants, suggestions, please drop a note on Discord or Tumblr!
