A couple comments explained it, but the Soma "clan" is a huuuuge extended family. None of the zodiac are necessarily closely related at all, but they all treat each other more closely BECAUSE they're all zodiac members. Being born as a zodiac spirit can happen to anyone in the extended clan.
Clan means that most of them are related by blood in some way, whether it be close to distant cousins. Some are related by marriage.
I actually love complicated characters like Shigure.❤️🤭 Sohma clan is a really big family so they could be distant relatives that share the same ancestors several generations back which is normal with big families.
They're just a part of a clan, which is just people who share the same last name. They aren't family with the exception of Yuki and Ayame but the reason why they are close is because they all share the zodiac curse & also Rin is like 2 years older than Haru so she's like 17.
