Chiroptera

Greetings adventurers!

I am absolutely fascinated by bats. Perhaps some would think that makes me a little batty, but there’s something so special about these fuzzy little sky pups. There’s something so exciting about seeing one swirling around in the sky swooping up their dinner for the night or the more day dwelling fruit varieties in the trees. They just fascinate me with their fleshy, unfeathered wings and seemingly complete denial of everything that we traditionally think a flighted creature should be. They truly are fascination, so much so that I put together a cloak to call attention to it! It’s also quite fashionable.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

If that strikes your fancy, consider becoming a Patron

Design notes from Matthew:

I think people know this about me well enough by now, I’m a huge fan of our natural world and the animals that exist within it. I’ve wanted to do some more animalistic items for awhile and lean into the idea of how amazing the animals of our world are. I don’t want to say it’s a theme, just know that my mind is currently leaning into some of those interesting creatures that we share the planet with. One of my all time favorite critters are bats and after seeing some on my most recent vacation, I knew I wanted to make something related to them.

The most obvious answer for a flighted creature is for it to give you flying abilities. That just makes sense in the long run. For the 5E version I spent a lot of time going back and forth on how to do this weather it would cast fly on you or give you smooth landings or something else. In the end I decided that just granting a fly speed and a slowfall really fit the item best. On the PF2E front there, well slowfall is its own thing and I’d really not carve out some of the power of other items for it. Just granting a flying speed is powerful enough.

The last thing I wanted to make sure to include was the amazing hearing that many bat species possess so that they can pick up their potential prey in the night sky. That was easy enough on both 5E and PF2E by granting some bonuses to perception checks, but I was able to lean into a little more on the PF2E side by designing around hearing becoming a precise sense. That kind of power did need a bit of a nerf so therefor I included the stationary requirement. This lets you act as a bit of a sentry for your party if you know something is coming.

We’re into the swing of true summer in the northern hemisphere now that we’re into June. I hope some of you will take some time to get away from the daily stresses and enjoy some vacation like I did this early summer. It’s great to be back home and creating though. Anyways, we’ve got a great lineup this month of items and I hope you love them!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
