Greetings adventurers!
Locking down areas and keeping them secure is something that I always advise my clients to take seriously, especially if they’re collectors of things like I am. Your priceless antiquities protected only by a few measly locks and keys certainly won’t do. You’ll need something, or someone with a bit more than just a light suggestion behind their words. A shield like this could be a start, but have you looked into automating it with a construct? Well this shield was pulled from one such construct. No I don’t know what happened to the construct…
Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, Foundry VTT modules, a filterable catalogue of all of our items, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:
There’s always a lot to say when designing high level magic items. Most of it has to do with balancing at a point that makes sense and not allowing them to take over the identity of the player character that is trying to do them. They should be powerful servants to an already interesting character buildout. At least that’s how I’ve always tried to approach them for my own design. On this one, I really wanted to create something that had the potential to make for a cinematic moment where characters need to fall back or hold a line. That was the starting point.
I don’t always recommend designing off of moments. As much as I’m a fan of them, they can in fact stifle creativity if you shove an item too firmly into one particular role. There are plenty of creative uses for a wall, which is why I wasn’t as worried about this particular item, but it is something to take into consideration, were you to design your own version. There’s a fine line between creating something useful and purposeful and creating something that has one obvious use.
The hardest balance point I had with this item was actually just determining how big to make the wall surprisingly. I wanted it to be able to fill most interior spaces, but not be the be all end all of defensive ramparts, so I needed some ways to limit its height and allow things to have a way through. Again, it’s about offering an interesting, powerful, but not omnipotent experience.
Later on today we’ll be releasing the Portative Parapet to go along with this item and I’m excited to get that new creature into your hands. We’ll have your Foundry and Moulinette updates early next week and a monthly wrap up shortly after that. Thanks for another great month everyone!
We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
