One More Thing: Portative Parapet
Greetings Adventurers,
We're wrapping up the month of March with something that's sure to stop your players in their tracks, at least that's what we're hoping for. We're delving back into the world of constructs to create a powerful shield guardian that is unthinking, untiring, and sure to be an absolute pain if your players are trying to sneak into somewhere they shouldn't be. We hope you use it to cause chaos!

Design notes from Matthew:
We started this one with the idea of some form of guardian creature that could be placed to stop incoming thieves from whatever ill-gotten goods they might be adventuring for and the idea of a scorpion with door shield hands was just too weird for me to not want to run with. That's really all it takes to get me excited about a project is just one more weird little idea that feels thematically perfect for what we're making.
The actual design of constructs is interesting as a lot of their defense is built into their immunities in the form of damage and condition exceptions that they get for being composed of metal and not having a mind to corrupt. It's something to remember when you're trying to create constructs as they already have one defensive layer that you don't have to worry about trying to figure out for yourself.
The shove idea was one that was added late for me. I had the adaptive defenses and laser eyes already in mind, but giving it something to reposition the battlefield seemed necessary to let it get out of flanking positions on PF2E and to allow it to open up the battlefield more in 5E. Not every creature needs offense, defense, utility, and mobility, but at this level there is some expectation of having some measure of all four.
I'm so happy that we got to create another great month of content including a collab with some good friends of ours at Eldritch Arcanum and Green Goblet Games. I don't think this will be our last time working with them as we had a blast putting together a nice little package for you all to enjoy.
