TromBone

Greetings adventurers!

There exists a type of bonemender. I know that’s an ominous way to start a statement, but it’s true. There are those who can take bones and reshape them into what they desire. I’ve found it to be an odd and macabre type of magic, but I can’t argue with results. Also the materials can be rather plentiful if you know the right people. I’m not saying I’ve helped make those connections, but well this was a gift from a friend of that sort. You see, I didn’t know what to make of it when it first landed in my shop. I thought it was a joke, but it’s certainly no laughing matter. I find it a bit spooky and scary.

Our patrons get early access to all of these items as well as additional formats that are easily usable in both physical and online play for D&D and Pathfinder 2E. Additionally they get high-res art exports, easy to use text exports, behind the scenes updates, and a lot more.

Design notes from Matthew:

Welcome to spooky month everyone! We’re going to be churning out spooky items all month because it’s our favorite month of the year. We’ve already got them all laid out and there are some BANGERS this year. We don’t do this every year, but when we do decide to do it, it’s always a blast. Our first item was literally just a fun take on a few skeleton memes out there. Jame together some spooky scary skeletons with the dooting skeleton meme and you end up with this extremely high-brow TromBone. I found the name quite humerus :D

I had to actually write both of these quite differently. On the 5E side, I knew I wanted it to fully mitigate a hit as that ends up just being a little more in line with mathematics there. That said, I still wanted it to be a dice roll on if it mattered or not. Thus why I put the stipulation about it being before you know the results of the hit. Basically this is a “I really don’t want to be hit right now” button for the player as written and I think that’s the best way for it to operate in 5E. It lets a player mitigate 2 hits for sure and get out.

On the PF2E version, allowing it to mitigate all of a hit would be way outside of the math for that setting. Instead I decided to make it mitigate a set value. This doesn’t scale super well, but what it does do is give you a sure amount that you can count on being mitigated across two rounds. Think of it like a different kind of temp HP. One of the things I always have to keep in mind when writing these is the math difference of each system and not accidentally making something extremely overpowered in one system.

As we step into spooky month, we hope you all have been having a great fall (or spring if you’re in the southern hemisphere). We’re so excited to make a bunch of items this month that fit the theme including our creature later on in the month!

We highly encourage you to join our Discord server where you’ll get access to exclusive channels that have sneak peeks, behind the scenes chatter, and more.
