[Space Bites+] Rubin's 10-Year Survey // Perseverance Clone for the Moon // Super-Puff Planets
Vera Rubin survey is underway. Could a spare Perseverance rover be going to the moon? Two planets that are less dense than cotton candy. A vast connected magma system on Mars.

If China gets there ahead of the US, the US will still have to go, because anything that China learns scientifically they will keep to themselves.
I wish we could get a twin of Vera Rubin here in the Northern Hemisphere. Leaving half the universe unsurveyed with the same quality as VR can do just makes me sad.
"Cotton Candy"?!.. you mean "CandyFloss"?!.... 🙄 😂
I was in the Atacama desert a year ago and saw the Vera Rubin telescope up on the mountain range. It should be fantastic ! BTW the desert is a good place to find meteorites as they are black and the desert is light brown...😉
Great! Let's go backward! Humans were on the moon in 1969! No vision for Mars. Stagnation!
The only reason for going to Mars sometime in the foreseeable future is bragging rights. And even so the logistical challenges are formidable, as Fraser Cain has explained quite well. Better to establish a self-sustaining presence on the Moon, along with a spacefaring infrastructure between Earth and Moon, and HOPE for some advances in propulsion. THEN, maybe, we can set our sights on Mars.
No bonus story this week?
We had it prepped and totally forgot to record it. And not the first time....
I wonder if you have colleagues who could convince the PRC to open up about their Lunar exploration time lines, recent developments and, thinking further ahead, plans for Mars. While the competition between SpaceX and Blue Origin is interesting, I believe the real competition is between China and the United States (together with its partners?).
Just American capitalist propaganda! China isn't a threat, it's just embarrassing "if the comies might get there first again"!! 🙄 😂
Frasier, love the blue beard!
It's just lighting. It's really just grey.
I like this new NASA administrator - which I’ve said somewhere else. It feels as though a lot of stuff is actually getting done and he seems to be interested in the science.
