rex, zurg and DMM keep getting better
Everyone you share rex with now gets their own watch history, ratings and playlists. rex no longer needs a TMDB key, and once it's claimed it doesn't need your Plex token either and shows Plex's own posters and metadata. Movie libraries also get Plex's automatic collections once you set a minimum collection size. Claiming it is optional and at your own risk, with a fresh free Plex account shared with your own. I have claimed it with my main Plex account so I will update you what happens there.
rex also stopped guessing from file names. With a sponsor's dmm_api_key in zurg's config, zurg asks DMM about each file, so anime and packs numbered inside season folders land on the right episode, and a disc's trailers and deleted scenes show up as extras.
Playback improved too. With FFmpeg set up, conversions tonemap HDR10 and Dolby Vision to the right colors, on an Intel GPU where the driver allows it, and keep the subtitle you pick, drawn into the picture or as a track on Plex for Android and iOS. Only a text subtitle in a file other than MKV or MP4, or in a download, is still dropped. From the next nightly subtitles keep up after you jump ahead, and a karaoke opening too dense to read in time is skipped instead of freezing playback. Downloads in the Plex apps work too.
rex got a lot faster on big libraries as well. Listing a source and the end of zurg's full sync no longer read the whole library from disk while every Plex app waits, rex uses far less memory, and a misspelt search no longer holds the server.
There are new ways to run and reach rex too. Outside your home the simplest way is rex-direct. Forward rex's port and once rex is claimed it gets its own HTTPS name under rex-direct.debridmediamanager.com. It can't work behind CGNAT, where the guide uses Tailscale serve or a small VPS instead. Watching away from home needs a Plex Pass or Remote Watch Pass on the Plex account you watch with, at least in Plex Web, because the free account rex runs under can't cover you the way a Plex Pass owner covers their shared users. Guide https://notes.debridmediamanager.com/guides/rex/ and one for feeding rex from anything that serves files https://notes.debridmediamanager.com/guides/rex-any-source/
On the zurg side, a removed release isn't gone for good anymore. A removed release goes to a trash for 30 days with your renames, matches and media analysis, and comes back as you left it if an account lists it again. The Trash page under Torrent Manager shows why each one went and lets you restore or purge it.
zurg is also much more careful about deleting in the first place. An account that briefly lists nothing no longer empties your mount, a restart no longer drops releases an account failed to send, a file you delete stays deleted, and repair no longer deletes the release it's repairing on AllDebrid, Debrid-Link, TorBox, Premiumize and Offcloud.
Sonarr and Radarr work better with zurg too. When one uses zurg as its download client, the dashboard asks for its URL and API key, and zurg then keeps Remove Completed on, since having it off is the usual reason an import turns into a full download onto zurg's disk. The qBittorrent endpoint only takes cached releases by default, sites that can't search by IMDb id like Knaben are searched by title, and Usenet grabs wait out an outage or a slow start instead of failing and getting blocklisted. zurg warns when its own disk runs low, turns imports an *arr copied onto it back into placements when they match a file in the library, and from the next nightly that warning also lets you delete the video files left in data/local, which zurg never deletes on its own.
Usenet and archives got a long list of fixes. Posts with random article sizes, randomly named RAR volumes beside a second or subtitle archive, two-disc films and names wrapped as [WtFnZb] play correctly now, an archive with one password protected file lists the rest, a damaged compressed RAR no longer crashes zurg, and episodes Real-Debrid packed into its own archive play. Beyond that one slow account no longer holds back the others, TorBox .strm links get renewed, the log hides your download links, installing works from a VPS, the Config page edits extra news servers, and a library analysis now probes one release at a time unless you raise analysis_workers.
Real-Debrid changed its filename filter again on October 14. WEB-DL, WEB.x264 and WEB.H264 are only refused in exactly that case now, so web-dl and the scene's WEB.h264 stream again, the other eight tags are still refused in any case, and DMM, zurg, the debrid uploader and plex_debrid follow the new rule. In DMM itself, fake releases that are only an executable are hidden, you can flag a release as malware, and a failed cast now tells you why. Season pages are being cleaned of releases from another show or season.
For your own tools, DMM has an API page now at https://debridmediamanager.com/api-docs and sponsors get new endpoints with their DMM API key for release placement, shared media info, metadata and filename identification. Sponsors on DMM's SABnzbd endpoint put that key in the Password field for the 2 TB daily allowance and a place ahead in the queue.
FYI: sponsor perks now last exactly as long as the time you paid for, and you can sponsor with Buy Me a Coffee too. Connect GitHub on https://gatekeeper.debridmediamanager.com and write your Sponsorship ID in the coffee's message so it's matched to you. Each 5 euro coffee buys a little over a month. The DMM button works on Trakt's new web app with the next extension update. zurg needs the October 18 nightly or later and rex the newest nightly, and rex's source code goes public with its first public build on Halloween, October 31.

Hey! First off, I’m really enjoying Rex. Great work so far! I have a multilingual media library, and I recently set up a second Rex server just for Latin American Spanish content. Everything works great, but I noticed I can’t change the metadata language for each server. I’d love to keep my main Rex server in English while having my Latino server show Spanish movie titles, descriptions, and posters. I also haven’t found a way to manually search for or change metadata and artwork. Just wondering, are there any plans to add language options for metadata or manual metadata editing in the future? Thanks again for all the work you’re putting into Rex!
I have an idea for a feature, where would be the best place to submit it?
in Discord or in Github repo as an issue, either works :)
