zurg is a lot faster on Usenet, also a Season fix page and three more Jellyfin plugins

New zurg updates this week!

Usenet playback is a lot faster. zurg keeps reading ahead while it waits instead of stopping at the article it is waiting for, and it shares that read ahead across the volumes of a RAR. Releases served as one big RAR are around twice as fast as before and they start much sooner. The slowest reads improved the most.

Stalls recover faster too. When a news connection takes a batch of articles and then goes quiet, zurg now asks another connection for the whole rest of the batch at once. Before this it found each missing article one at a time. It also decides a batch has really stalled by watching the bytes on the wire rather than by a clock. So a batch that is halfway through a big article is left alone however long it takes.

zurg uses less CPU on older machines now. The cache checksum uses a faster one on x86 CPUs without AVX, where the old one ran with no hardware help. Your existing cache stays readable.

Season fix now has a page in the dashboard. It renames fansub numbered episodes to the names Plex reads. It has been in zurg for a while but it was only reachable as two URLs, so almost nobody knew it was there. People were still asking for it in the wishlist channel this month.

Open /season-fix/ and it explains what the pass does before it does anything. Scanning is behind a button. Results group by show and every rename is shown old to new. Anything that might be the wrong show arrives unticked and says so again when you confirm, so applying everything at once cannot quietly rename a release matched to the wrong series.

Compressed releases split across several volumes play now. These used to list every file inside with the right name and size and then refuse to play anything, leaving a bad header CRC in the log. zurg carries the unpacking across each volume join now. Thanks to billable2022 for the report.

Sonarr and Radarr stop getting stuck. Three separate things were doing that.

A release your Arr could not import used to be deleted by the attempt. .NET answers a failed move by copying the file and deleting the original, and zurg was honouring that delete, so the release vanished. It stays put now.

Downloads a client never clears no longer block new ones. zurg keeps each finished download on its page until the client removes it, and a client only removes what it imports or fails. So one import it could not do sat there for good. Once the page filled up with those, everything newly finished waited and was never imported. A download that has sat there ten minutes without being removed now gives its place to one that is waiting.

New jobs no longer wait behind a full library's size checks. After a restart with a big Usenet library a release you just grabbed could sit behind thousands of background checks. Size checks have a proper queue now and a release with a waiting job goes to the front. Finished checks and retry delays survive a restart.

Premiumize, Offcloud and Debrid-Link now have their own Jellyfin plugins. That makes seven of them alongside Real-Debrid, AllDebrid, TorBox and Usenet. Install only the ones you have. They don't need each other.

All seven got an episode parser fix. Jellyfin was reading things like AC3-2.0 and 5.1x265 and 2026-1080p as a season and episode number, so films were landing in your library as TV episodes. That is fixed. Upgrading also goes back and refiles the films that are already wrong and removes the empty shows they left behind. Packs of films are left alone.
