Simsco Canning Factory Mod
The Simsco Canning Factory can be loaded with produce and dairy ingredients, then used to convert them into boxes of canned and processed products, such as boxes of jars of jam, canned vegetables, wheels of cheese and more. It looks like the Cupcake Factory, but is industrial safety yellow.
The Canning Factory pulls all of its ingredient requirements from its own inventory, not your sim's, so you need to load it first. This is meant to allow you to better decide what portion of that huge haul of apples goes toward fruit, which part toward Jam, and which part gets saved for brewing into a 'fizzy' or some other use.
You need to put the ingredients into the machine before you can make the recipes with the machine. You can Open the inventory like a refrigerator and drag things into it, you can drag and drop items onto the machine, or you can use the Load ingredients option with a dialog.
Select Bulk Food Processing, and choose one of the recipes for which you have ingredients. The machine will chug and flash and belch smoke in a remarkably steampunk way, and your box of processed food will come rolling down the conveyor belt. Your sim will wait until it is done then pick up the box and look for a surface or a shelf to place it on.
You need to clean the machine about every 6 uses. This is the same as the Cupcake Factory for now.

Sugar: The factory can convert 6 fruit into a large, commercial-sized sack of sugar, which can be opened to get 6 small bags of sugar that can be used in recipes.
Flour: The factory can convert 6 Potatoes, Soybeans, Black Beans or Taro Root into a large, commercial-sized sack of flour, which can be opened to get 6 small bags of flour that can be used in recipes.
Canned vegetables and Dried Spices: You can use the canned ingredient directly in recipes (at least that's the goal...), or you can Open it Up and get actual ingredient back to use.
Canned Fishcake: A mixed, processed fish cake in the shape of a fish. It can be used in any recipe that calls for 'any fish', such as Fish Tacos, or even Fish on a Stick.
Crates of Milk: The factory can create a number of different types of crates of milk that can be opened to get 6 bottles. 6 Bottles of Cow milk can also be repackaged for convenience into a crate of cow milk. The crates need to be refrigerated to keep the milk fresh.
Cartons of Eggs: Regular eggs can be repackaged into a carton of 6 eggs. The cartons need to be refrigerated to keep the eggs fresh.
Loaves of Bread: The bread is delivered in bags which can keep it fresh indefinitely until opened.
Suggestion: This mod works great when used with the Food & Beverage Supplier License Mod, since you can get a larger bonus on product sales!

This is an amazing mod but could there be a version with a smaller machine?
I've been thinking about this since you asked -- I can't think of what it would look like or work like, lol other than what it is now. I mean, I could use about anything to 'make the products' -- a Microwave could be a replicator, etc. But did you have any ideas? (also, I'm bad at making custom models, lol, so it would have to be much simpler than the current cupcake factory). Thanks for the feedback, and let me know if you have any ideas!
Hi! First of all, thank you for this amazing mod. I really love the idea behind it. I mainly play historical saves (Victorian era), and I was wondering if you would ever consider adding an Off-the-Grid version or compatibility for the Canning Factory. It would be fantastic to have a version that could represent a more traditional or early industrial canning process without requiring electricity. I completely understand if this isn't something you plan to do, I just wanted to share the suggestion because I think many historical gameplay players would really enjoy it.
Yes, I will add that! I've been meaning to add that for a while, but keep forgetting, lol. I also have been planning to enable it to work on community lots (you have to own it right now), so that a neighborhood could share the expense of one. Thanks for the feedback!
Hello! I have a question, do all items produced by this end up being normal quality? I have been processing some perfect strawberries but the jam always ends up being normal quality. Is this intended? Also, is there an yway to get more recipes for the factory? TIA!
Sorry I'm falling behind in answering questions this week. Anyway, Yes, right now they all end up being normal quality. I tried a number of ways to propagate the quality of the fruit/vegetables/herbs to the products, and given the way it uses them (draws them from the machine's own inventory), I haven't found a way to make that work. I've rationalized it by thinking that it's meant to be mass produced foodstufs, like the cans you'd see at the grocery store, whereas canning done one at. time 'by hand' on a stove is more of a boutique quality product (fancy jam with a ribbon around it, etc). I have considered adding an upgrade or two that would cause all items to be higher quality, but I will have to modify all the recipes to take it into account. Not an enormous amount of work, but still enough that I'm going to have to devote time to it. I'll try to prioritize it -- the more think about it now, the more I like the idea of adding available upgrades to it. For extra recipes, you can get recipes for bulk Kegs of Fizzies (if you have Discover University) and Casks of Nectar (if you have Horse Ranch). Those are in my Better Bars mod here: https://www.patreon.com/SimsonianLibrary/posts/better-bars-92362645 Thanks for the feedback!
I cannot believe I just found this! Thank you so much for creating a way for my sims to make their own flour and sugar without my having to download a bunch of additional harvestables!
YES! Flour and Sugar were about 50% of the reason I made this mod, lol. I couldn't imagine trying to run a bakery where I have to source all my ingredients at the little grocery booth in Hensford-on-Bagley, lol. Thanks for the feedback!
Hello! The mod works fine after the update even for people who don't have all the packs, but I noticed that you can make some recipes without any ingredients. (I tested only with this mod, Better Bars and the Supplier License) My theory is that you made it so those recipes would require ingredients from packs I do not own, so the game is hiding them from the requirements and allowing me to magically make them. :p The recipes are: Coconut Milk and its Box version (I don't own Island Living for the coconut), Taro and Bean Flours and its Commercial Sized Sacks (I don't know what pack has those), Kegs and Boxes of Focused Fizzy Juice. I don't know which ingredient you chose for those recipes, but it's from packs I don't have, so they're coming blank. We can ignore them just fine, of course, but I wanted to let you know. ♥ Tysm for the nice mod.
Thanks for the feedback on this! I think I know where to fix this to avoid the blank ingredients. I haven't added the pack tests to this one yet, and those products do indeed require island living. Thanks again!
Hi! I just wanted to say that I absolutely love your mods 💖 They have given me everything I always dreamed of for my gameplay! I was wondering if it would be possible to add a feature similar to the Simsco Candy Factory mod, where employees in small businesses can autonomously produce items. I built a small factory, and right now I have to manually control the workers for them to craft things. Thank you so much again for creating this amazing mod — it really makes the game so much more immersive and fun ✨
is there a way, addon possible or a tweak I could do to link it with fridge like the wine-maker. i understand it was made with a separate storage on purpose, I'm just playing for a collective farm household, and the entire (well, almost) gameplay is based on your mods, and it's cumbersome to think (that's it, period) where to put this or that batch of produce.
well, if you want to try editing it yourself, and I wouldn't suggest doing so unless you've tried it before, I think you should be able to switch it to also include the fridge inventory by changing line 24 of this file: e882d22f!00000000!EBB902167E263406.devnull_cheesemaker_StartCrafting.interaction.xml From this: False to this: True You could use a program called Sims4Studio to do so. But it's sort of coding. Also, I'm rethinking how much I really like having to put stuff in the machine, now that you bring it up. That didn't turn out to be as useful as I thought it would, and it does get in the way at times. Other options might be: I could either just have it use the fridge inventory as it's own -- so it would effectively be another fridge (with a machine built on it). Or I could just have the recipe also draw from the fridge inventory, but the inventories would still be separate. what I described above was the second option. I'll think about changing it. I'll start by changing my copy and then see how I like it, lol. Thanks for the feedback!
Hi! This mod is extreme fun, thank you! I can't stop lol. Could you please check though if a can of peas or beans supposed to have one item (1 pea or 1 bean) when opened?
I double checked the tuning, and it looks like it should. I can test it in the game tomorrow. Did it not yield the right thing, or nothing at all?
Would be so kind as to check that bread making is referencing everything it needs to reference, please? I made sugar and flour at the factory, opened them to make them look like (and read like) normal Cottage Living stuff, came up again to the factory with other necessary ingredients, but the factory didn't see sugar and flour. PS: I love the CCs <3
I will check that out. The bread recipes were working the last time I played it (which ironically enough was a bakery), but that was at least a patch ago. Thanks for the feedback!
I'm really enjoying this mod - it's much simpler than other canning mods. Are there plans to add dried versions of the other herbs like basil/parsley/chamomile?
That's a great idea! If you can think of any other in-game herbs that are both plants and also cooking ingredients, let me know. Though I suppose, there's no reason I could make recipes for all of the Herbalism herbs, not just food recipe ingredients. Okay -- writing that just gave me an idea. I suppose that in addition to dried herbs from the Herbalism skill, I could add some recipes to make bottles of herbalism potions as teas. Kind of like the Kombucha fizzies, but for each of the Herbalism potions (with the potion effects). So there are plans to add those as of now, lol. I'll put it on my enormous ToDo list. :) Thanks for the idea!
I'm so in love with this mod ever since I found it. I was searching high and low for a bulk canning mod and this goes above and beyond in so many ways! I just wanted to let you know about a small issue I found though. When I go to make strawberry plant milk I put both the 6 strawberries and six mighty plant milks into process but there's only the option to make the strawberry plant milk one by one. I'm currently running the 1.2.3 version of the mod. This is a screenshot of what the menu looks like t.ly/V28ZP
I'll take a look at it -- I may have required the wrong ingredients in that recipe. Thanks for the feedback!
Out of curiosity, did you by chance include the old file with the latest update, or is this mod incompatible with SCCO?
Hi Gojira-Force, to be honest, I haven't looked at SCCO either way. I don't expect the canning factory would be incompatible with it, unless SCCO overrides or patches something the factory needs. Are you noticing any problems with both mods installed? As far as integration with SCCO goes, I'd be happy to add features for that, if they seem to make sense...and are possible. :) There are a lot of custom recipes available with SCCO. I need to come up with my own custom recipe (and a few custom objects) for each item in order to be compatible with the Canning Factory, but I from what I've gathered so far (though their website is still unavailable), there are more processed food type items available via SCCO. I saw chips and TV dinners, which would both be cool to make with the machine. I also noticed canned snails -- would also make sense for the machine to make. I will need to come up with a way to handle the recipes in such as way that it does't depend on SCCO to operate (I think there's a python injection I can use to do it). Otherwise, how would you like the Canning Factory to work with SCCO aside from being able to make the SCCO recipes with it? Let me know what you'd like to see, and I'll see if I can make it do that. :)
