Supported version(s)

The R.E.A.L. VR framework was tested both with game patch 1.07, the original PC release from 2021 a.k.a. the Classic edition, and with game patch 1.08, the updated release from 2025 also known as the Remastered edition. They are available from Steam at the address linked at the top (I get no commissions). The same versions of the title bought from other stores should also work, but I cannot give any guarantees, as there could be differences that cause issues ranging from small defects to showstopping problems in VR.

Older versions or pirated copies are not supported. Official versions later than the ones listed above may or may not work, depending on what was changed. See here for information on how to prevent automatic game updates from breaking VR functionality.

Special setup notes

The folder where you should extract the R.E.A.L. VR archive and run RealConfig is "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Days Gone\BendGame\Binaries\Win64". You might need to customize the path if you moved your games library or in case you own the game from a different store, but it will always be the folder that contains the "DaysGone.exe" executable file.

IMPORTANT: As I mentioned, there are actually two different versions of DG which are available for download. The one that comes with all the bells and whistles is the Remastered version, which Steam will install by default. It revamps the visuals a little, although I cannot say that I really noticed that much difference during gameplay. However, for many people (myself included) the Remastered version seems to have markedly worse performance. So, I decided to also support the old version of the game, which is available through the Steam "Properties> Betas> Beta participation" dropdown under the name Days Gone Classic. Your mileage may vary of course, and you might want to experiment with both editions of the game to find out which one works best for you.

Resolution and aspect ratio

Use the "Target pixels per degree" slider and "Adapt resolution" button (see here to find out how they work).

You will notice that the framework preselects a default aspect ratio of 4:3 instead of the usual 1:1 that we use in VR. That is because the in-game menus will be cut off to the right side if the aspect ratio is anything less than 4:3.

Options

You can set all graphics and gameplay options according to your liking and how powerful your GPU is, but there are a few settings that you must leave to the defaults preselected by RealConfig in order for the title to display properly in VR. Specifically, in the OPTIONS> DISPLAY menu

  • WINDOW MODE must be WINDOWED

  • VSYNC must be OFF

  • FRAME RATE LIMITER must be set to UNLIMITED

  • HDR must be OFF

and in the OPTIONS> GRAPHICS menu

  • RENDER SCALE must be 100

  • CHROMATIC ABERRATION should be OFF (no need for that in VR, the headset lenses have plenty!)

  • MOTION BLUR must be OFF (this is very important when using R.E.A.L. VR, otherwise the world will look smeared out horizontally)

Everything else can be adjusted according to your preferences, although it will make very little difference in terms of performance. But make sure not to set LIGHTING QUALITY to VERY HIGH because while certainly looking better, it will bite off a huge chunk of your fps. I believe that LIGHTING QUALITY = HIGH is a reasonable compromise.

IMPORTANT: This game has no DLSS implementation, not even with mods, so my DL(S)SS fix will not work. TAA is mandatory with this heavily modified Unreal Engine branch, and it cannot be disabled without everything becoming shimmery (the game uses it to filter noise and smooth out checkerboard rendering, so it needs to be in the pipeline). Luckily the performance is good enough that you can really crank up the resolution to insanely high values, which means that the TAA-generated auras around characters become almost invisible.

Additional game-specific notes

You can bring up the R.E.A.L. overlay with the Pause key on the keyboard, or by pressing both thumbsticks on the gamepad. The gamepad gesture is always active, even during gameplay.

Camera, HUD, gameplay

The R.E.A.L. framework supports 6 DoF tracking, i.e, the camera will follow your head rotation and movement in space. The HUD is perfect, with every element displaying at its correct place in the 3D world, and the camera is decoupled from your character's movement, except when aiming.

There is no first person because combat in this game is basically impossible without some distance to assess the threats that come from all directions.

Custom controls in the "DG" overlay tab

There is an additional checkbox specific to this title: "Disable camera collisions while aiming". This was found necessary because the game forcibly takes control of the camera when you traverse a narrow space while aiming, for instance when you clear a doorway. That would cause the camera to become headlocked in VR.

When the checkbox is ticked, the R.E.A.L. framework will prevent the game from detecting camera collisions with world geometry; this means that sometimes when you're walking while aiming down the sights you might find your point of view behind a wall, but it also makes the aiming camera much more predictable and gets rid of the random headlocking. The default setting should be fine for everybody, but if you encounter problems with it you can turn it off and revert the game to its normal collision prevention.

I think should have simply made a new moniker, new Patreon, and re-released RDR2 as well as Cyberpunk etc. as part of an entirely new framework unrelated to Luke Ross. Who could prove otherwise, they could reissue the DMCA if they were so inclined, but they'd have no basis based on his new terminology I vote: DUKE MOSS, from California, DMCA for short.

Oléee Luke! As we usually say in Spain. You're finally back! You've made the best decision possible. It's great to see these posts again. I'll read everything carefully to see the new versions of your framework, and of course, we'll run tests and ask questions. A very, very big hug :-)

Nice to see you back. But since Cyberpunk is not on the list, I suppose Witcher 3 will not be on the list either. I hope I am wrong though.

Well, since he is still reorganizing and getting things back up. That is probably a low priority for now. Getting the Patreon back to functional is the top priority I am guessing 😊 Probably deal with other things like how/if to handle DMCA'd games at a later point. Again, I don't think he ever intended to say that Witcher 3 would have been supported any time soon or for sure.
