Story Stream: 7/25 - 7/31
Hello friends!
It's that time again! It's been a SUPER busy week, as I've been working REALLY hard on getting caught up on Thirty Pop. Doing so required watching a couple sequels I haven't seen in ages... and watching sequels always requires (for me) ALSO watching their originals. So I didn't stream a ton else this week, but I have no regrets. This was a fun week. Let's get into it!

MOVIES
The Naked Gun (1988)
I have so much love for this movie. I was a little surprised at how funny it still is to me all these years later. I laughed out loud multiple times. There's also an incredible amount of nostalgia for me around this movie as it's one that my lifelong best friend, Nathan and I spent a LOT of time laughing at together. So many great memories. Available wherever you rent or buy movies. (10/10 - Most Highly Recommended)
The Naked Gun 2 1/2: The Smell of Fear (1991)
I was very pleasantly surprised by how well this one has held up over the last thirty years. I know I loved the first one, but I wasn't sure this one would still be funny. It definitely is. Actually, really funny. (Admittedly, I still have pretty low hopes for the third one, which I'm sure I'll revisit in the next week or so). Available wherever you rent or buy movies. (8/10 - Highly Recommended)
The Terminator (1984)
I've seen this movie FAR fewer times than I've seen it's first sequel, so it still feels pretty new when I do rewatch it. I researched it a bit this time around, and I'm glad I did. It's always paled so much in comparison to the sequel, but now I understand why. This movie was produced on a budget of $6.5 million, compared to the $102 million spent on the next film in the series. That context gives me a MUCH deeper appreciation for it, and so much more grace for how visually unimpressive it is in comparison. I don't care much for the series beyond the first two movies, but I do really love these Streaming on Hulu. (8/10 - Highly Recommended)
The Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
Like I said, amazing movie. Although, admittedly, I had a different experience with this one than I expected. For whatever reason, I fully expected this one to be as visually stunning in 2021 as it was in 1991. But, while there are certainly moments that are impressive, there are a lot of moments that have not aged well. Overall though, the movie has aged VERY well. It's such a perfect addendum to an already interested storyline. If you haven't seen it in a while, definitely revisit it! Streaming on Netflix. (9/10 - Very Highly Recommended)

TV
Big Brother (Episodes 6-10)
This show isn't for everybody. I've made that clear I think. It's definitely for me though. And this week was especially fun. I'm traveling this next week and very bummed to fall behind on the action in the house. If you've never watched this show, skip the first several seasons, and start around Season 7 or 8... then just enjoy. It's so good. Streaming on Paramount Plus. (7/10 - Strongly Recommended)
The Bachelorette - "The Men Tell All"
Obviously this show is never good. But, these "men tell all" episodes are just so especially bad And this one more than normal. Ready to get back to the normal bad episodes. Those are fun. Streaming on Hulu. (1/10 - Truly Not Recommended)
Love Island (Episodes 9-17)
This trash is so trashy. It's just pure trash. But even still, this trash has SUCH. GOOD. WRITING. I will never, ever, ever, admit to loving this trashy trash. So... I'll just stop here. Streaming on Paramount Plus. (3/10 - So Highly Recommended)

PODCASTS
Smartless - "Joy Reid"
I had no idea who Joy Reid was, but honestly, with these guys it never really matters who the guest is. It's great when there's a super familiar guest, but even when there's not, they make it super fun. As always, well worth the listen. Streaming on all the podcast listening apps. (7/10 - Highly Recommended)

That's it! Like I said, it was a pretty minimal week this week. Next week will probably be even more so as I'll be in Nashville for the week attending Podcast Movement 2021. I look forward to this conference every year, and REALLY missed it last year. While I may not get as much streaming time in this week, I'm sure I'll be bringing some stories back!
More soon!
