what you said about loving photography because the world is just beautiful is so sweet and thoughtful. I love that way of viewing the world and I hope that attitude makes its way to my creative endeavors as well.
do you think you’ll do a Q&A at some point?
DJ I admire your work ethic. I had the same problem with my history degree where you have so much to talk about (and I'm sure you know this) you have to let go of these things for the sake of the wider project. I think you get the mix of rigorous research and being entertaining. Unfortunately you won't right the wrongs of historical misunderstanding alone but you can be a of the change. I think its good that you're putting so much into this and I'm looking forward to it but (as someone who burned out and is also in recovery) don't burn yourself out, you have a community behind you and I'm happy to keep sponsoring in my small way for you to get this where you want
mannnn thats a nice bike. As far as sponsors and what they may look like; I would like a world where the scammy sponsors stop getting the light of day, but I understand that money for these things do not come from good vibes. It's a balance without a doubt.
It’s a dumb idea, but if you need a quick entertaining video I think “Don Quixote(or Don Cobbler) joins the IDF” could be fun and explore the thoughtlessness and barbarity of conquest
photo book sounds great, what was shown here has me very interested
Oh please put your photos into something that your audience can pick up to support you. Whatever outlet creativity comes through, it all goes towards keeping the pipes in working order. And honestly, hubris shouldn't be any concern at all for asking if us here would be interested in such a thing. Sharing anything a person makes with other people is expecting that what is shared will illicit and response. We're here cause we love what you do, you fucking fruit. Put your photos in a book. Then make a video about North American colonial era Christianity that goes into witch trials.
Your scripts and videos introduce these concepts with great tact. I wonder would you ever explore the historical and cultural application of Christianity through America's foundations in a dedicated video. I feel like your conquistador content and blood meridian video keep going in and out of this central topic. I get religion is messy but I think your dissection are analytical and empathetic enough to honour the topic well. But genuinely as British guy you have given me great interest in native American culture and the clash with western colonialism. Love your work.
Looking and speaking a lot more like you could singlehandedly win the Vietnam war in this one if you know what I'm saying 🫄
I’ll admit, at first I didn’t really care to learn about the Indian Wars. Then you posted the Apache Wars video, and I was like, “Wait.. why don’t I think about the Indian Wars? How could I have missed the Indian Wars?!”
Okay, I never expected to see/hear flippin' Modern Talking in one of your vids. That's a holy mother of a whiplash if I've ever seen one. Anyway, looking forward to the upcoming stuff and I hope you'll enjoy your roadtrip. I also don't think that you have to stop taking sponsors - maybe keep 'em for the smaller inbetween projects to uphold a bit of a financial cushion. You should never rely on YT not being a dick when it comes to monetization. Oh, and a photobook sounds great.
Hi, Regarding sponsors: I enjoy your sponsor segments just for the laughs. If you don't despise doing it, you might as well continue and get paid for it. Regarding photography: Photography is the only thing I do, and have done, with my life that has any meaning and value to me. I had no idea you were also a man of the craft. You should make a photobook. But if you want other people to see it, you should consider making something more like a zine. Smaller, shorter, paperback, and thus cheaper to produce. If the project demands a real book, then I can only advise you develop a working relationship with the printer. The world is filled with "make your own photobook" services that do just a godawful job of it because they cater to people who don't understand or particularly care about photographic quality. Regarding the motorcycle trip: I would enjoy videos of that journey, if you think there's something worth sharing there. Even just a voiceover on footage and images would be cool. I was reminded of these quotes from Henry David Thoreau and Robert M. Pirsig: “In a car you're always in a compartment, and because you're used to it you don't realize that through that car window everything you see is just more TV. You're a passive observer and it is all moving by you boringly in a frame. On a cycle the frame is gone. You're completely in contact with it all. You're in the scene, not just watching it anymore, and the sense of presence is overwhelming.” ― Robert M. Pirsig, Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I did not wish to live what was not life, living is so dear; nor did I wish to practice resignation, unless it was quite necessary. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life, to live so sturdily and Spartan-like as to put to rout all that was not life, to cut a broad swath and shave close, to drive life into a corner, and reduce it to its lowest terms, and, if it proved to be mean, why then to get the whole and genuine meanness of it, and publish its meanness to the world; or if it were sublime, to know it by experience, and be able to give a true account of it in my next excursion.” ― Henry David Thoreau, Walden
I'd definitely be interested in a photobook. Passion/hobbyist photos are no less valuable than a professional's. Often "mistakes" that a pro wouldn't make end up making the work way more interesting. Good luck out there in the field, Mr. Cobbler.
you may have already seen atun-shei did a whole video that was just him tracing the steps of benedict arnold's 1775 expedition into quebec as a way of retelling the history. not to say you SHOULD just imitate other youtubers or that you SHOULD trace the steps of cabeza de vaca on a motorcycle, BUUUT...
I’ll have to watch that video! I’ve wanted to do something similar for awhile, and may do it for Coronado For now, let’s see the reality of motorcycling and filming at the same time before really diving into the deep end
I really dont mind the sponsorships and think they are unobtrusive. You have the freedom to only take good sponsorship and avoid scams like Honey so I say go for it. You never know when patreon could have an issue. Just take good sponsors like Raycon and negotiate good contracts with them to where you dont have to say anything you dont believe. Or do whatever you'd prefer if you dont want to do sponsorships. Also I'd buy that photo book.
Excited to see peach cranking his hog
cobbler man dont stop doing sponsors and getting that money i love your patreon and all the benefits that come with it, im glad to support you as long as i can
I guess im thick skinned when it comes to art. But maby its living in a zone flooded with shit. Photos as a medium aint cutting through the noise for me, exept for when im the photographer. Maby that makes sense or i'm just being a douche
Hell yeah make a book. I’d buy a copy.
Your method isn't insane I do the same. I'm always late but I do an insane amount of research. Anyway thanks for the update
I’d definitely get a photo book
major yes to the photo book
I would 100% buy a photo book if you were to publish one
Brother I would be INCREDIBLY interested in a photobook. I also was super into photography back in the day, my high school years, I still have my Nikon D3100 that is surely very out of date, but I still take it out and mess with capturing *moments* in the same way. Would love to see what you see.
I truly appreciate the amount of hairy cleavage your mic is "accidentally" showing us. Of course we're gonna talk about whether Dubbya drank booze out of Geronimo's skull... And this is why I'm a patreon member.
And how beefed up his arms are
Never before has a Patreon subscription yielded me so much content. I work in research and I can tell you that if you're diving into something there's always some mis-caring bystander who's clogging the pipeline. You're over there shifting through the sludge and finding information and putting together knowledge just to have Tad, who cares not and doesn't think its important or worse thinks its important in all the wrong ways. But Tad won't get out the way, Tad likes to stand there telling you its fine and not to worry and this isnt necessary. But it is necessary Tad. Tad you fool! We're on the burgeoning edge of understanding! And you're here with your faux personhood, making snow cones from the nuclear snow melt. So yeah. But your process is important and its baked into the content. You can tell when somebody deviates from their process. Take your time Peach.
Do the sponsors, it’s that or working the patrons behind the algorithm every time it gets tight
Yeah for real. Play the game and get paid, we respect you regardless. The more you don't have to worry about money the more you can focus on your unhinged madness that we're all here for.
