Bonus: Toverland (& Aardbeienland)
Hello all! This month's ramble video is a little behind. In trying to edit my first pass at the topic, I ultimately am just not satisfied with it and don't think it's engaging enough. I've decided to re-record it with a different approach to the topic.
In the meantime, here is another theme park bonus video to tide you over!

If you liked Aardbeienland, you'd love the German Karls strawberry theme parks. They got strawberry themed rides and lots of snacks (including some very questionable combos), random animatronics and also some potato and sausage themed rides! Mascots, too! They are always building more and some of those park vibes are very cool to soak up. I would love to see an Efteling video.
Watching this reminded me of Lotteworld Adventure, a theme park in Seoul, Korea, which opened when I was around 10. Visiting it as a child who grew up in Anaheim, having Disneyland as my standard for theme parks, was astounding. I’m curious if you’ve ever been. I have no idea what it’s like nowadays. Perhaps I should pay them a visit.
Oh, and Lotteworld Adventure is entirely indoors, as I recall.
There is or was a water carousel type ride in Canobie Lake Park in NE where you’re on a water plane and you skim the water then go into the air. Very fun, I remember falling into the water though when getting off. I was fine! I wonder if it’s still there.
I gasped when you mentioned Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders
It's a common dad trait to be able to do a perfect duck impression. My dad does it too lol
I thought Jenny was making the horse sounds at first lol!
Somehow just based on your big dog shirt dad archetype comparison I was able to assume the man behind you was bald and I was correct 😭
I find it so weird someone would make fun of people for enjoying a theme park, especially when they are there themselves. I've had annual passed to some of the parks in orlando and when I see/hear people enjoying the park I just think its nice? Even if I'm not super excited about a ride I'm on, seeing other people really excited about it is fun, I'm glad they are enjoying it. Idk why people can't just let others be. Glad you were able to go on again without the backseat commentary.
When you went into the gift shop my dumb ass thought you were still in the boat for a second lol
In the Willow show on Disney plus there's a creature that looks so much like the tallymally I bet jenny would love it!
lol
There is a similar horse ride at Legoland CA; it’s called the “jousting horses” or something like that. I always loved that peaceful lil’ ride, too bad they have an age cap and I eventually got kicked off :(
Do the Tallymallies have lore? What are they?
Was Merlin himself an animatronic, or one of those projection/screens?
He was just a screen! They had physical props "floating" in front of him to dress it up
salem willows in salem massachusetts had a water carousel (i actually think it’s still there) and it was boats and they were made of this weird chalky material and i adored them. much smaller than the tolly mollys though
there's a similar horse riding ride at legoland ca and it's adorable bc the horses look like the ones that came with old lego sets and you see medieval knights and princesses made of lego as you go around the track! i think it may be height restricted though bc only kids are meant to ride it
That was closed the last time I went and grimy to the extent that we thought it might be an old defunct attraction, otherwise we definitely would've gone on it
Why people in the background of videos gotta be mean?
Both the Tolly Molly and the Trojan horse ride are pretty identical to two rides we recently experienced when we took our toddler to Peppa Pig Theme Park in Lakeland. I also hadn’t seen rides like that before.
The framing of the shot at 28:05 makes it seem like the screams are coming from inside the horse. Really had me shook for a moment there lol
On behalf of my country I apologize for backseat-dutch-commenter-dad. Couldn't make out most of the nonsense he was saying except him saying the tunnel smelled bad.
Germans LOVE Country Roads- cannot explain it- guess the Dutch do too
"as a german kid i Used to wonder why our radio stations like to play the american national anthem so much until a friend explained to me that Country Roads Take Me Home is not in fact you guys’ national hymn…" - Tumblr user moami
I get that abba toverland song stuck in my head all the time so I'm loving getting to see it!
It would seem Jenny’s sister is the more powerful sorceress?
:(
That would be So Cool; to have Jenny in the boat in front of you, and be able to heckle her (in some foreign language)
The water carousel reminds me of Dragon Land at Busch Gardens!! I loved that place when I was little lol
place looks cool, even on the hottest of days...
Thank you so much for providing abandoned content! OMG Strawberry Jesus.
at 0:54 it sounds like Return of the Mack is about to start.
34:22 🐍 Snake confirmed
we've got snakes!
Obviously, Merlin wants to become his young, hot, BBC self.
Shout out for the MST3K reference 🧙♂️
YOU’RE WEEEELCOME
I like that their gift shop shelves and store fixtures are wooden and handmade, just really adds to the vibe.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing it with us!
@16:17 I keep watching over and over again. I can't stop laughing at it
As an american I feel relief that 'pseudo-jokingly-aggressive-for-no-reason dad' is a universal type. Like thank god we don't have a monopoly on him. Calm down bud, your kids already know you're the alpha. Loved this footage, it's incredibly peaceful and soothing. ty for the bonus content : )
(@17:07) Merlin! In his suspiciously 16:9 ratio window! 😉 EDIT: In portrait mode, of course. 😊
just a coincidence but the music that plays on the merlin’s quest ride has a really similar chord progression to a song called “letting go” by the field mice. not important but it just stood out to me, idk check it out if you just can’t get enough of the merlin’s quest song i guess
Im so sorry about the dad experience but its very funny that the big dog dad archetype is universal
A theme park based entirely around the concept of a single variety of fruit is both the worst and the best idea of all time
this park reminds me of Enchanted Forest in Oregon. if you're ever in the pnw it's a great little stop, the entire thing is hand made by some old man who loved fairy tales and his family still owns and operates it.
Google maps says temporarily closed :(
My headcanon is definitely that the Dutch dad who was rocking your boat was the same Dutch dad who inexplicably rugby- (or I guess football-) tackled me into the plunge pool while I was minding my own business at the Turkish baths in Bodrum. That or artificial bodies of water just make Dutch dads insane.
this comment is poetry
As a Dutch person living in the US, yup those dads are a universal experience... hope you had better luck in the Efteling!
Omg this strawberry theme park is incredible. It's like if Dark Souls was full of strawberries instead of skeletons and stuff.
Okay I lived across the street from a classic Dog Shirt Dad growing up, and Jenny’s description of these people made me remember the MOST important shirt this guy owned- a shirt with Arnold Schwarzenegger in a suit with sunglasses on, it said “The Govinator” on it. It was like this guy’s final form. He would get so excited and yell down the street to people to read his shirt when he was washing his car. It was incredible.
Honestly this park seems like everything I want and need out of a lower cost park. The atmosphere looks great, plenty of high quality merch, theme and whimsy abound! Also forget that dad trying to be cool in front of a bunch of people trying to have a nice time. While it's nice to see it's not just Americans who act like jerks lol it still sucks.
the 'americans are jerks' stereotype is an excellent excuse for other nationalities to bully anyone with an american/canadian accent
If only Jenny had had the nerve to go for the full-on witch's hat instead of the conventional peaked cap. It would have looked cute, and certainly would have kept the sun off better!
I respect your commitment to quality. Thanks for working so hard for us.
Jenny is universally acknowledged as the expert on this, so quality is guaranteed.
Aw, of course the silly, difficult-to-conceptualize bonus ramble idea won... I'm sure Jenny will make it good but...I don't get the appeal on the first place.
I think I get it. It's sort of a creative writing prompt, and creative writing prompts have given us some of the great classic rambles, like Trapped on a Blizzard and the Mini Golf Gnome Ritual.
omg 1. that thumbnail looks like early CGI lol so its funny thats its a real photo, 2. i love dollywood!! im so happy youve seen it! i used to go a lot as a kid and in high school cause i grew up in east tn. lol always thought that the very weird and old darkride, “Fire In The Hole” at dollywood was your style lol as teenagers me and my friends were pretentious hipsters and would be like “actually this ride is cool and psychedelic and we’re the only onewho get it” lol
It's almost uncanny how much that Tollymolly looks like a G3 my little pony.
Thanks for all the effort in getting the ramble video right this month Jenny. Fun bonus video too! Strawberry Jesus lol.
Aardbijen land looks like a horror park haha, getting some Goose Bumps vibes from everything. Strawberry Jesus looked like he be belonged in a del Toro film
Happy new year! Love video, especially the strawberry park, what a delightfully weird place. (All I could understand from jerk dad was him complaining the merlin cave smelled bad (he was speaking dutch), that must’ve been such an awkward experience.)
I happened to be eating strawberries when I saw this ramble! Berry coincidental!
I love these kinds of videos so much, I can't really travel ATM and we have nothing this interesting anywhere near where I live so thank you!! It's super relaxing and interesting
I can imagine it's weird to speak with authority on things you've never seen, but I'm excited to see what you've come up with! Seems like an interesting challenge and I'm glad you're taking the time to come out with something you feel great about. Also double vids this month, this is some good eats! Excited for the year to come, thanks for all your hard work!
Sorry your 40€ plastic wand was a disappointment. Don’t tell Randy Moore
Listening to Love Song by Lana Del Rey on the drive to Toverland seems like a vibe
I love how the ducks are just chilling next to you at 3:30. The first one even seems to do a duck greeting!
Eendjes!
This bonus is awesome! This strawberry place is INSANE! It's so unsettling I LOVE IT. My brain was afraid some horrible berry cryptid was gonna leap out the whole time.
Possibly a pack of “Wild Strawberries” like the one in the Shel Silverstein poem/drawing
That dad behind you peaked in high school
While I was doing the last delivery of my shift the other night, I got stuck behind two girls on one bike and some drunk (or I hope for his girlfriend's sake he was drunk, if this was what he's like sober, if this was his all-the-time personality... yikes) guy riding beside them. The guy got upset that the girl on the back of the bike made eye contact with me, so he pulled up beside me and grabbed my jacket, shook my arm, and flicked my glasses while yelling at me that that was his girlfriend, trying to get some response. I just stared straight ahead and focused on the notion that it would be inappropriate for me to kick his bike out from under him while I was still on the clock representing my employer's brand, and eventually the girls took a left while my route went straight on and so I was free to finish my job. Anyway he grows up to become that dad, I imagine. Same genre of guy.
I like how, even when going through Toverland, Jenny still finds the time to dunk on Evermore.
Thanks for the bonus, and for the extra care on the ramble!
Toverland looks so sweet. I'm so impressed by how easy you make it to experience these things vicariously with you. Your detailed explanation of the smell of the Merlin ride before the footage gets to you commenting on it is great. And yes, that room slaps even on video!
With you on capturing gift shops, so many areas like that which aren't spotlit attractions get seen by everyone in the moment but often no one takes any pictures. Then it changes with the years or is gone entirely, and you come to find out it only exists as a fading memory
I was just finishing up the video and coming back to comment on this! I'd never given much thought to the ephemeral nature of parks (heck, before finding Jenny I didn't really GAF about theme parks in general) but Jenny presents it in such an... anthropological way that it's just fascinating. So glad to have been able to expand my world view.
Jenny your commitment to quality is admirable🫡
we appreciate you jenny, thank you for this video 🌸
What is the topic? I’m only at the $1 tier so I don’t think I have any way of seeing it beforehand (although I always enjoy the surprise).
i’m curious too !
Hoping someone resubmits the animatronics topic for January's poll 🤞
Yayyy a bonus video!!
Thank you for taking the extra time and care!
A bonus. Happy New Year one and all 😍
I wasn't expecting The strawblerry witch project
Yeah the one that won seems like it could have been a humdinger to get the tone of. Hoping the second pass goes smoother for ya!
I think I have a good idea!
What a way to start the new year :D
The communal wands blew my mind 😱 wish we could have cool things like that over here
Yesssss. OK I'm partway through. The mean guy was speaking Dutch.
I’m really hoping you’re still reacting to animatronics since the poll was so close 😭
Noooo sorry even though it was really close that one never pulled into 1st place
hurray!!
💖💖💖
thanks for the bonus!! 🥰
