S2E24: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me [Live]
There was a hint of a good movie in the first one. There were some solid jokes that landed reasonably well. Not so to the sequel,
Recorded live at the Streatham Space Project on the 14th of April 2023, It's.... Austin Powers!

The idea that Austin Powers could have been fighting on the side of the North Vietnamese Army has struck my imagination in the balls, because what if he was there and met Yujiro Hanma from Grappler Baki? Yujiro having famously joined the North Vietnamese Army and won the Vietnam War because he was such a skilled martial artist that the only way to test his skill was to fight the entire American (and Australian) army, lol. (That was just a throw away detail as part of the backstory of another character to explain why Yujiro had another son.) Yujiro normally doesn't brutalise non-fighters (because we're beneath him) but I feel like Powers would get on his nerves and Yujiro would tear his face off.
We need Them-bots and Gent-bots.
I think pretty much THE ONLY funny bits in movies/tv shows when a person does a rap is when they start doing it and you're like "Oh god not this..." and then they're immediately interrupted by another character or event. Like "Oh you got me I thought you were gonna torture me and I was gonna lose respect for you a little bit but you were just kidding"
Notable about this one that Austin didn’t have a Miss Kensington moral guide to steer him from his worst impulses, much as Meyers didn’t have Carrie Fisher to do the same for him
The concept of Austin Powers as a John le Carré-style bureaucrat spy trapped in the campiest of 60s spy flicks would be a far funnier movie than what we actually got 😔
Re-listening to older episodes, and I can't find Goldmember. 😪
Dunno if it's changed since you posted, but it is there. Just not tagged with Mike Myers like this one is. https://www.patreon.com/posts/s2e25-austin-83503907
Relistening to this and when Alice is discussing the party button at the end of the movie she flubs and says Bussy button before correcting herself. Felt odd that this wasn’t flagged up by Dev lol.
I've started relistening to the entire podcast from the start and I'm curious if you're ever going to do a Metal Gear Solid episode?
YES! GET IN! THANK YOU! Seriously, Austin Powers is one of my nostalgic favs, one of those things your mom introduces to you when you come of age, such sweet memories, thank you, I see/hear so few talk of it.
Everytime I think of Mundane Austin Powers, I get the mental image of Mike Myers doing a Evelyn Tremble straight-man and I am horrified that they didn't think to do it.
I'm just so glad that Alice, like me, canNOT keep There Will Be Blood and No Country For Old Men separate in her brain.
Fat Bastard is like, they wanted to do Scottish jokes and also a parody of Baron Harkonnen from David Lynch's Dune adaptation for some reason.
Damn it, is broccoli cancelled now? It's my favourite veggie. :( Can we separate the art from the vegetable this time?
"he dated one of Wagners daughters" I yelled out loud
As much as you hated doing this, know that it got me to give you another 7 dollars. Love you all. Do Archer now
I have this Chilean 9/11 chart that clearly shows two 9/11s
Y'all should be selling KJB branded spray bottles. I would buy like 8 of them. I'd stash them around my apartment, hide one on the fridge, inexplicably tape one to the inside of my sink cabinet, etc. This is a good business idea and you should do it. Please
Like Austin Powers, the song "American Woman" is secretly Canadian.
3 things to say 1.) If you like Felicity, watch Boogie Nights. Also just watch Boogie Nights. 2.) Rocz is the one who read the dates, not Liam, usually 3.) Mustafa would have been funnier as a character if they had just called him Brownface.
I agree with Alice that Voyager should have had the God Emperor of Mankind on it.
^^^ I came here to say this too! Also all space marines are trans
Can confirm Austin Powers has a Fanfiction.net category
Abi kind of understated the fucked Anglo vibes of that Hitchhiker's Guide bit because as I recall, Adams related this story of brave spacefarers piercing the veil and they look upon this glittering sea of stars, the first of their species to ever do so, to know that they are not alone in the universe, to be faced with the profound wonder of all that is, and are silent for a long while. One of them finally breaks the silence and says: "Well that'll have to go, for a start."
Their weapon is cricket. They are literally Space England.
The story goes that in Plan 9 from Outer Space, Vampira read the dialog that Ed Wood had written for her and immediately declared that actually her character was mute. Maybe that's the sort of thing they meant when they said that Verne Troyer worked with Mike Myers to develop the Mini-Me character.
Apparently Myers regretted not giving Troyer any lines in Austin Powers after getting to know him during production. His way of making amends was giving him a prominent speaking role in The Love Guru, which is a feels like it might have the opposite effect.
The Voyager probe was 856 million dollars to send our unsolicited nudes and mixtape to the galaxy
And directions to our place. "Aliens: u up?"
Our hosts lathing Magnexit into existence
Realizing that Dr Evil is a funnier character, especially when an evil villain is genuinely trying to reconnect with their estranged teenager, that's how you get Dr Heinz Doofenshmirtz, except Phineas and Ferb is actually good
KJB needs to review Candace Against the Universe, ASAP
this movie was so bad I could only watch half of it. thankfully you watched it so I don't have to.
The voyager bit reminds me of this one time a mate of mine chucked a sickie to have sex, before having sex he took a dick pic to send to the lady, like a little sneak preview, but his last message conversation was with his boss to tell him he was too ill to come in. His boss simply replied “we will never speak of this again”
Wait a minute. Isn't Austinpussy the Austin Powers forced fem movie.
