everyone should read discworld, multiple times
Uhh ACTUALLY Devon, Chewbacca's son Lumpawaroo was in the Holiday Special, not Chewbacca's Jedi nephew Lowbacca.
FUCK
"I never really got into Discworld..." Smash cut to me, walking my dog in the snow-covered dog park, shouting "WHAT."
I strongly agree that LoTR wouldn't fit the atmosphere of the podcast. But....you should cover it anyway : ) It certainly has a lot to say about masculinity. You could just pick out your favorite scenes, otherwise the podcast would 100 hours long. Alt thought: A podcast episode that takes your favorite snippets from various movies that won't be covering on full?
Just subscribed to the patreon to tell you: How could you forget Sesh Gremlin Q !?
I thought the face mask did that to Abigail's face. She said so in that one video. /s
Whitney Wolverine; best answer.
I'm so on board for doing the Bond movies again but going only off notes and Nate correcting them.
Since it's "Time for England to become even more normal", isn't it also a great time for you to do "V for Vendetta" on the pod??
So amused to learn that your each other's funniest moments are pretty much the same as my favorite moments of all of you on the podcast <3 You did however miss the glorious moment of Abi's "Sequin fury" in "You only live twice" :D :D :D That remains my absolute favorite ever!
Love you all, thank you so much for doing this.
Books: What it feels like for a girl - Paris Lees What if 2 - Randall Monroe Storyteller - Dave Grohl The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage - Sydney Padua The importance of being interested - Robin Ince TV: Sandman - on Netflix
OMG Good Omens is the best book ever... can you tell I'm commenting as I listen along...
Angua is just an amazing character in the guards novels..
Names are so complex.. and can be dark, I picked the feminine version of what my stillborn twin would have been...
I hear you, Abi. I didn't know being trans was even a thing until I was in my 20s. Tho I did absolutely have gender feelings and somehow was obsessed with watching Mulan. Also Alice your voice is awesome.
Question for next Q+A, what cancelled or lost film do you most want to watch for KJB?
What if, instead of finding someone who looks like Abigail, we just hire some kind of blonde American to play her part? Also loved the discussion on books you used to read. I loved reading A Series of Unfortunate Events when I was younger, would highly recommend if you haven't read them beforehand.
Abbigail (at 1:00:15): Yes, you are transgender. Me: Yeah, I know.
Funny thing about the names question is that I've had 3 names, deadname, chosen name and then a name that chose me by a game calling my ass out so hard I couldn't exist properly for a week, and every single one has been 3 letters with the letters AM in it. Sam, Amy, Mae. Wild how that happened.
I'm excited to check out all those media recommendations! I just got N.K. Jemisin's newest books and am eager to start reading them.
Alice to surgeon: "What if a British woman was Italian?"
I remain committed to this program
Setting reminder for 1 year from now
They said the name I would pick; so, I guess, there’s another egg crack. Also, for my money, the single funniest moment of the entire podcast is “The Chimp exercised today. Did you?”
Audibly cheered when Iain M. Banks was mentioned... those books actually saved my life, no exaggeration
Did Sun Tzu exclusively make enemies of people upriver and near the water? Did he have someone destroy a dam for him? How could he be so certain?
thank u for your opinions about trans names (and also abi's melodic rendition of my name. not sure what that was a reference to, sorry) fwiw, my recommendation is to just go full chaos mode. mononyms are cool, but also, go for an aesthetic and make computers hate you. name yourself 'bleep' or 'AN602' or '{amp}zwsp;' or 'perfect chaos'
My wife plays roller derby and apparently skating up that hill is pretty difficult.
YES DEVON! FEET OF CLAY IS *FANTASTIC*
of course alice's favorite discworld novel is the one with the fantasy jfk assassination setpiece also re: actresses, my family recently rewatched derry girls and bronagh waugh in s2e6 had my brother and i both going "wait, was abi out already?"
Oh no you've transed my gender
I used to have an 80s Soviet Zenit camera. Heavy but simple and worked well: the Kalishnokov of cameras.
Happy to commit to this program as always
super glad that monstrous regiment got mentioned during the pratchett hour for how gay & trans it is
Please, please do Big Trouble in Little China.
I also was huge into the Eragon books as kid, and honestly after doing a reread last year I think they hold up really well. Premise may be super unoriginal, but imo the execution more than makes up for it, easily in the all time fav book series for me.
A Bridge Too Far would be great, some insane Gene Hackman drops
Sam Rockwell movies that would fit into the pod: the criminally under-rated Mr. Right. I think y'all would have a blast with it, not the least for the hero identifying as a tyrannosaurus.
excited to hear my question get answered!!! I'm sorry for causing a solid two or three minutes of umming and ahhing, but hey that's probably?? A good question???
Thanks for reminding me of yet another hint that young me was blithely oblivious of by bringing up young adult fiction and making me realize that my favorite books were about a woman forced to pretend to be a man by a conservative society (Song of the Lioness, which may not have had much of a market in the UK? It was randomly in my elementary school library and I read the entire series rather than paying attention in class). I'd genuinely never connected those dots. At this point, I'm pretty convinced that I could time-travel back to young me and shake myself while screaming, "You're trans!" and young me would have managed to just not reflect on that statement in any way for more than a decade.
The Alanna series was one of my favorites as well! All of the books by Tamora Pierce are really good, if less trans relevant.
Please do Alice's idea
If you had three songs to fuck, marry, and kill, what would they be?
Alice you're a great podcaster gettoutahere with that nonsense
A girl I knew in high school spent actual money to have her name changed from Sylvia to Sylvie.
Famke 30 years ago as Abi obviously.
Devon, if you've been spending time in Cardiff, can you please tell me you got some Welsh cakes from the indoor Market? They are the best Welsh cakes in the damn world
YES they're so good
The first Q&A I've submitted questions for, I'm excited to know if I made the cut and if I didn't of course I'm going to take it massively personally and begin a revenge plot against all 3 of you and do some Syndrome from The Incredibles type shit
uhh bonusss
