I remember seeing this movie in theaters and the Kaufman scene is all I can remember. Thankfully it inspired one of the all time KJB runners all these years later. “I have a degree in Freedom Studies from the University of Austin. I could shoot you from Stuttgart-“ “I have a degree in Jesusography from Liberty University. I could shoot you from Stuttgart-“

Remarkable that this film lifted whole the evil plot from Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country wherein Klingons using a new stealth ship destroyed another Klingon ship but made it look like the Enterprise did it so as to start a war.

I feel like as a resident German I should point out that Hamburg has the Reeperbahn which is the red light district / bar area where a lot of tourists go. You cannot tell me Bond would not spend his days in Hamburg there getting drunk and fucking.

Cis person here were those questions things people really have to deal with in a gender identity clinic

Yes. They are incredibly invasive and disrespectful. It is not much better in Germany.

You guys have tainted me. I watched The Russia House with old man Connery the other day. A character pops up that immediately made me think "Fat Jimmy Saville".

I BADLY want an episode on The Scarlet Pimpernel with Anthony Andrews !!!! Please! Give me late 1700s hedgehog wigs and a shockingly young Ian McKellan!

the treatment of paris 'pump her for information' carver by the film and bond could have warranted a higher misogyny score imo like, its another in bonds long line of 'oops, i got another woman i was fucking killed because i was with her' moments

@1:38:00 you appear to have a weirdly edited version. here's the final encounter with Stamper, where Linn throws the explosives and says 'try the detonators, the missile will set them off'. bond pausing to say that is still kinda weird but less than you make it out to be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQSSvDQyUNA&t=130s

BMW R1200C: “Actually quite a nice looking bike” excuse me what? That’s the ugliest bike BMW has ever made. I want one

I am an avid listener of Kill James Bond Mr. Bond, I could shoot you from Stuttgart and fulfill the goal of the podcast.

And now with a mention of the Symbionese Liberation Army in the first five minutes I must now spend the next few months playing Liberal Crime Squad obsessively. Wish me luck for my pacifist nightmare mode run.

Will you be doing Tinker, Tailor for a bonus episode? I’m very interested in what you think about it (original TV or film or he’ll even the book…)

In Austria there is an actual Gender Identity Clinic doctor named Dr. Kaufmann, not sure if she could shoot Bond from Stuttgart tho.

Ricky Jay, the Zizek-looking guy who plays Henry Gupta, is famous for his card tricks. He can throw playing cards fast enough to cut fruit with them. He got a world record by throwing one 190 feet at 90mph. In the movie, he plays an eccentric terrorist who never, at any point, goes near a deck of cards. Boo!

A
Andrew T. Wilson · October 31, 2021

It's Ricky Jay, I assume the R is just a typo. Also, sadly, he is no longer with us. Jay passed away in 2018, right as he was getting set to play the old security guard in Knives Out (his picture is on the fridge in the security office as a nod) In addition to his skill at card throwing Jay was famous as one of the world's greatest slight-of-hand magicians, he had a company that created practical visual effects for movies (not just movies with magic in them, although they did a lot of those), and was a world authority on unusual antiquties: advising museums and lecturing at universities.

The fact that Bond decided to learn Danish of all languages when we now know he doesn't speak enough french to communicate with his daughter is very funny to me. His pronunciation is surprisingly good, though.

I have to have seen this movie but I have absolutely no memory of it...I think it came out the year I started smoking weed. Obligatory plug for doing Sneakers for a bonus episode...star-studded mid-90's post-cold war espionage thriller, you must consider it!

Objectively, scientifically, the best Brosnan film.

Also I love the quips in this one. Quantity over quality. Probably fewer than half actually land, but I love the effort.

S
Simon Bitdiddle · October 27, 2021

I propose the Dr. Kaufmann Medal for Pacing Mercy Killing, awarded to the character that full-on stands on the brakes, throws the anchor overboard, and brings the entire movie to a full on halt.

I remember seeing this at the cinema. I have been looking for a replica of Bond's leather jacket from the arms bazaar ever since.

I wish the game wasn't shite (something I say about 90% of bond games)
