S4E39: F9: The Fast Saga
It's the penultimate Fast and Furious, and wouldn't you believe it but we've arrived at total context collapse.
Nothing that we've seen before actually happened the way we thought.
Nobody actually did anything.

- With the ceasefire in full effect, the media has returned to ignoring the daily atrocities in Gaza. My friend Ahmed still needs to feed his family and afford medicine. Anything you can kick in would be hugely appreciated.

Twink is now Twas
Going in to listen every FF ep back to back .. 🤩
Between the resurgence of Windlifter jokes and recalibrating the SCUM system, I'm having a real hard time thinking this show isn't just for me, the listner. Love that a science-based system means originalists and constructivist can coexist peacefully. what is science if not something that can be evaluated and updated through inclusion of new information and rigorous debate. " Unnecessary violence" is a great change. Makes room to include discussion of overkill responses even when provoked.
I am the script doctor of all your pain.
Just saw a trailer for a movie about Frank Transporter beating the shit out of bad guys on a cargo ship because of human trafficking I think. Please let the gang do whatever the fuck that is.
And now, for a Betwee-quel... Fast & Furious: JURASSIC PARK! I think the hosts would appreciate the Boys take on fambly. https://maximumfun.org/episodes/story-break/fast-and-the-furious-jurassic-park-157/
Did November say "varmint season"?
A friendly reminder that you can't close out Heist Season without doing Jurassic Park 1/2/3, which are heist movies for embryos, live dinosaurs, and eggs, respectively.
I watched this movie in the cinema when it came out, and I have close to no memory of any of this
As a reluctant North Carolinian... The "OOF" that came out with the Dale Earnhardt (PBUH) reference was real. 😂
I moved to Raleigh in 2021 cuz I was fleeing a hurricane. I will say Raleigh North Carolina is much better than the Florida panhandle. So I'm not reluctant yet.
I will say, full support for updating the 'U', not only because it keeps saving terrible movies and the points already brought up, but also because there is precedent – the interpretation of 'Smarm' has also been broadened from a purely textual "this guy is getting Lines™ off" to "how proud of itself is the movie/the writers", especially during the Rambos. This is a somewhat more fundamental change, yes, but not terribly so ((I'm also pretty sure that at least once or twice Unprovoked Violence explicitly got broadened to "violence the movie asks us to endorse/think is cool and based", so that precedent is even stronger))
Enjoying the evolution of the SCUM score, I would throw in "unapologetic violence" as a contender as well
"Unrepentant Violence"
Do I need to transition for you three review Death Race (2008) starring Frank Transporter. His character name is literally Frank in the movie.
Hear me out: Mad Max Fury Road's inciting incident is the main character and her friends stealing a truck. A perfect final entry for the cars chapter of heist season.
Feels like it'd be better suited for truck season given it's engaged with the truck/car dichotomy
I was on the train listening to this, so I was on the train when I looked up what the NATO reporting name for the MiG-15 is. I think I might need surgery to fix whatever the fuck I just did to my sinuses holding back the laugh it surprised out of me.
If you want WOKE Fast and Furious, watch "Super Fast" It's a parody, makes fun of the tropes, steals from multiple fast films, and it's kinda funny. Plus if has things to say about gender and Sexuality
The ghost writer of all yer'payn
I think the stress test for whatever you replace "unprovoked" with is The Great Silence (1968)
VARMINT SEASON!?
Noo!! Cherrito was the one for whom the action was the juice! Not Waingro!
Not only is Dom Toretto's iconic shotgun a flanderization, so is his iconic Dodge Charger. In the first movie, Dom only cared if a car could get him a quarter mile at a time in 10 seconds or less, he wasn't concerned about make, model, year, or country of origin. The Charger was only there because that was a logical car for a young Dom to wrench on with his father, he spent most of the movie with a little Wankel-engined RX-7.
You mentioned Han explaining he had a daughter, and then you mentioned not having much to say about her at the end, but I do not remember anything about her in the movie itself
1:15:03 At very least when Vegeta becomes an ally they take a long time to trust him, plus Vegeta actually still causes a ton of massive problems even after becoming an ally. This is like Vegeta being retconned into allowing Cell to achieve perfect form because he knew it was the only way Gohan would be able to stop him.
It's another Weekly Planet classic: superhero movies are all either Close the Portal or Grab the Gem. "Making Greedo shoot first" feels like it should be coined as a certain type of retcon. TBF to Han, I'd fake my death to avoid having to hang out with teenagers.
I think Unexamined might be a good alternative to Unquestioned here. This could just be semantic, but even violence that is unquestionably provoked/justified/necessary still has consequences that a lot of these movies are not interested in.
Medieval Karen demanding to speak with the seneschal
So does biblical Samson get a technical Kronsteen for attacking the pillars holding up the temple he was standing in?
So they have a racially diverse cast of crew members, yet the non-white crew members are mostly confined to side adventures away from the main cast? Almost like they're segregated into racial classes?? And you're telling me 'Race Wars' was only in the first movie??
I believe you two do know who Vincent Van Gogh is
Unsolicited pitch for the violence category: "Unrepentant Violence" "Unnecessary" and "Unquestioned" also are good, but I think each word proposes a subtly different question, so I just wanted to throw that one out there as a consideration in case it feels helpful.
I’m assuming it’s just because they didn’t process what November was saying because she didn’t anglicize the pronunciation of his last name, but did Abigail and Devon say they don’t know who Vincent van Gogh is?
„Every country they visit in this series is fictional.“ I KNEW Brazil was a lie…
Please do KILLING THEM SOFTLY for heist season. Remarkable POS.
Every series that goes on long enough inevitably ruins every good part about it.
My friends and I have a weekly online movie night to cackle over terrible movies. We've watched the entire Fast and Furious universe and I don't know that we're better off for it. FAMILY! IN! SPAAACE!!! And cars are soft. There is no getting around that the cars in this universe must be soft to serve as so many landing points for these guys.
Is that the British pronunciation of tabernacle?
The cast of Kill James Bond don't know who Vincent Van Gogh is, or November is just being obtuse and pronouncing it in the Dutch way, even though Can Gogh didn't want people to pronounce it that way because he knew that this exact situation would happen.
A trailer for what season? It sounded like varmint to me but that surely has to be wrong
That's what I heard. When I heard it I started firing both my revolvers into the ground
Forgettable movie, unforgettable episode due to discussion of revisions to U in S.C.U.M.
As a French I just wanna say La prochaine fois, barre toi chez O'Tacos et commande toi le menu Fréro' Street avec frites et boisson pour 4 euros 90, gros pédé

Does Nova need a fund me for a new mixer?
You're already paying into it if youre here
Could go for Unrepentant Violence
Kronsteen Rosette and bar
Devon gets to something that makes me feel completely crazy. There is a series called Reacher where an extremely large man hospitalises people for the slightest social slight and kills dozens and dozens of people with no regrets and everyone around him thinks this is cool and good. It's like every character in the series are psychopaths, devoid of regret or empathy. Or it's written as the delusions of a narcissistic serial killer, where the other characters are fictitious or they pretend to like the giant murder because they are his hostages and they don't want him to murder them.... which would actually be a good series maybe.
This series really needs to go back to basics. Gather all living characters to a secret location then Mr Nobody gives a 3 slide presentation. Slide 1: DVD Players on Trucks. Slide 2: You drive fast. Slide 3: Wonga.
This many years in we examining the scum system? Is this a midlife crisis
Being trapped in the Time Prison of F&F has them rethinking their podcast choices it seems

The super special Mcguffin comes in two parts, is in a movie heavily featuring a pair of brothers, named after a star-sign and it isn’t called GEMINI??
His beloved John will become his Cena
Not sure if you all are still taking recommendations for heist movies, but if you are: Rififi - the ur-heist movie. The heist sequence might as well be a step by step instructions on how to rob something in the 1950s. Even has a Waingro. Or at least a guy that messes up the heist. The Killing - early Stanley Kubrick heist movie. Worth watching for the scene when the chess playing wrestler (played by Kola Kwariani an actual chess playing wrestler and friend of Stanley Kubrick) acts as the distraction and fucks up a race track bar.
Technically speaking, with the current car/truck dynamic of heist season, Mad Max Fury Road could be argued as fitting the theme
"The movies have become smoother" in the same sense a carano made jfk smoother
There's lots of photos of the Beatles with Jimmy Savile, so draw your own conclusions for lego.
There's a lot of photos of Jimmy Savile with every British celebrity. The man was a foundational part of the British institution.
Pregnant women asking for fish be like: "this gar will be my crave"
I wonder if Charlize Theron’s Dylann Roof haircut is a knock-on effect from 2020 causing people to realise that white people dreads are not really cool anymore.
I did not binge these films AS much as our she’s and they did but I def watched them post facto and fairly close. This was my take as well
Are these movies just adventure serials at this point?
I suppose Star Wars and Indiana Jones started there so that's kind of in the DNA of blockbusters but they used to make them cheaply and fast. I don't think fast and furious even started out as blockbusters.
Hear me out on this one Occasionally, when you're trying to remember when something happened in the F&F franchise (usually something that involves the main cast who were not present in Tokyo Drift) but can't quite pin it down, you'll default to suggesting "Fast 3". I want to propose that this non-Tokyo Drift version of Fast 3 ("The Fast and the Furious: Even Faster") is the Moonpussy of this franchise. It's the one where Roman Pearce was introduced, Dom revealed his backstory, Mia drove a car once and Letty 'died'.
Brian was also there
