KJB x FTL: Operation Crossbow
In a rare and powerful Podcasting Crossover Event, We got together with our friends over at space history podcast Failure to Launch to talk about Operation Crossbow, a 1965 espionage thriller loosely based on British counterintelligence efforts against the German missile program.

I was listening to this in the car and suddenly realised you were talking about a film my Dad and I used to watch when it was on BBC2 occasionally on a Sunday afternoon back in the 90s. I always preferred this to many of the other WWII films. Listening to you recounting it reminded me of time spent with my Dad, who has died recently. Thank you for reminding me of this!
An ICBM with no nuclear capabilities is so fucking funny man
The arugula gag made me laugh way too loud in a train station.
I feel bad for any Failure to Launch fans who aren't KJB fans cuz the amount of references in this is truly insane
Once in school we were visited by reps from Amnesty International and one of them had a collage of people she looked up to and it was Martin Luther King Jr and such but also Churchill was there and I don't know much about the guy but I do remember thinking he should not be there
The indifference of the British and Americans to German atrocities really solidifies the Maoist 3rd Worldism in my heart. All Westerners really are all guilty of the same shit the Germans did. Why get upset with the Holocaust when they did the same level of genocide all around the world?
Immediate mark against Abby for calling Star Wars: A New Hope "Episode 4". Sorry, I know you were in Star Wars, but just no.
I mean after Rogue One, new episode 3…
I cannot let Devon's anyR kcaJ joke pass unremarked. simply fabulous.
Now looking forward War Season and KJB doing "The Eagle Has Landed": the best and therefore worst Clean Wehrmacht movie ever made.
I'm gonna make November mad at me. The P-38 was more beautiful than the Spitfire. I will brook no argument, because you're wrong.
You are correct. Even though my favorite aircraft of WW2 is the Mosquito, the P-38 is the better looking plane.
Me asking what the exit strategy is for Operation Suicide while the rest of the room stares at me.
To paraphrase one of George Peppard's later roles, I love it when two podcasts come together.
So in the middle of Kansas in the middle of nowhere is an amazing space museum, the Kansas Cosmosphere. It is weirdly incredible, having a sputnik 1 and 2 and the training lunar rover and lander and the actual apollo 13 command module and a ton of other eyeboggling shit I was not expecting to see there (at the time it claimed to have the largest collection of Apollo/Gemini stuff outside DC and the largest collection of soviet space stuff outside Moscow). Anyhoo i mention this because you go in and it is all like YAY SPACE SHIT COOL and there is some stuff in the big lobby including an SR-71 hanging overhead and you pay your money and go into this tunnel which is quite dark and over the tunnel is a big portrait of fucking HITLER and the music inside is somber and talks about the history of modern rocketry and how we got there and is not shy in saying how much human life this cost and what kind of shit they did to do it (you can also see a slide rule used by Von Braun and another by his soviet counterpart whose name I forget) and at the end of the tunnel (which ends in a display of one of the handful of remaining intact V1 and V2 rockets extant) it is basicaly hey you are about to see some cool shit and space rules but just remember all this shit has one wing dipped in blood, have a good time. Huge rec if you are ever in the middle of Kansas. You can tour a salt mine in the same town which is used to store old movie shit so make a day of it!
I need Abby to know that her terrible rocket/arugula joke made me laugh so hard I scared my housemates. 🤣
Lindeman was probably one of the individually to blame people responsible to the Bengal famine.
I think I first learned about the V1 and V2 programs from Battlestar Galactica 1980 so I'm sure this will be just as historically rigorous
Hello fellow Gen-X nerd!
No scum?
I’m extremely excited for this crossover 🙌
