FREE PALESTINE
Hey, Devon here. In our home, we talk a lot about how insane everything feels, and agonise constantly over what can be done to best help the Palestinians trapped in Gaza facing the full brunt of genocidal violence. My partner Rebecca has put together a list of four fundraisers you can contribute to- all of them are at work on the ground doing what they can.
-Palestinian Communist Youth Union, which is doing a food and water effort, and is part of the official communist party of Palestine
https://www.gofundme.com/f/to-preserve-whats-left-of-humanity-global-solidarity
-Water is Life, a water distribution project in North Gaza affiliated with an Indigenous American organization and the Freedom Flotilla
https://www.waterislifegaza.org/
-Vegetable Distribution Fund, which secured and delivers fresh veg, affiliated with Freedom Flotilla also
https://www.instagram.com/linking/fundraiser?fundraiser_id=1102739514947848
-Thamra, which distributes herb and veg seedlings, repairs and maintains water infrastructure, and distributes food made with replanted veg patches

"they should've let Laurie petty lez out!" sooo when are you covering Tank Girl (1995)? 😊
I mean if I was to make a suggestion war season with musical season as the bonus and you start with something that is a combination of the two like oh what a lovely war
i'm only half recommending it for religion season because it's a musical, but Fiddler on the Roof might be interesting. It feels relatable to me as a rural slavic region with communism bubbling up, and most of all the "hey god? what the fuck" attitude. Half my family would argue with god if given the chance, feels very true to life
Sooooooooo.... anyone know why there was no new episode over the weekend?
Afaik Devon wasn't back from japan with enough time to record for this week so the free feed got the bonus episode about three days of the condor unlocked
you gotta do the ascent - another russian period piece with religious themes but this time set in world war 2 and directed by a woman that unfortunately was her last film (i believe)
Another Christian movie, but Night of the Hunter (1955) rips
I will say on the point of there being people doing the good work out there that it is true and real. The world may be dark at times, but there is always good and light if you are willing to fight for it.
I really love just listening to the three of you vibe. In these days where society is an absolute dumpster fire, this podcast has been a bright light of trans joy and I appreciate everything you folks put into it. Thank you for yet another amazing episode.
Yes! I fully agree
Oh my God I'm watching Jesus of Nazareth 1977 and this is the shit George Lucas thought he was cooking in 99
i saw Jigoku (1960) the other day, which is a very interesting and very Buddhist movie if you wanna expand to new religions
So what i got from this is that future of S.C.U.M. science lies in scoring with films higher dimensional maths. Some scientists believe that the place to start is adding imaginary numbers, but I advocate for a leap to quaternions, as that framework adds the dimensions K and J to let us measure a film's smarminess in a three dimensional space. Now if someone can figure out how to incorporate the B dimension, we can really elevate science as a whole with our movie reviews
Have been considering adapting the SCUM system for use in ranking fanfics- Smarm/Sappiness, Cultural Insensitivity(made up cultures count if you try hard enough), Unhealthy Relationships, and Misogyny(omission is an automatic 2).
Walther's PDP F-series is the pistol you want, the top of the page is all bisexual lighting and shit. The PPK sucks, the F-series is a slightly smaller version of their duty pistol, the PDP which is fantastic. The PPK is a Nazi gun, the PDP is a modern design.
Last episode is Ferris Bueller's Day Off, so that you can end with "that's it, there's no more, go home"
Please give Bruce Willis his flowers while he is still with us and do Hudson Hawk for heist season (it’s also religion-ish)
Re: longevitous bits, my partner (who does not listen to the pod) and I cannot stop saying “a woman” in Roger Moore voice. It’s been years.
oh wow thank you for the Absolute Wonder Woman recommendation, I spent way too long just staring at the art while reading. Art goals honestly, and the story telling is beautiful. Does Abigail know any cosplayers who could make her Diana's outfit
Can The Naked Gun be considered a rom com?
I got to be the 69th like, will you read James Tynion IV's Comic book The Department of Truth, about where propaganda and belief shape reality literally as opposed to figuratively like it does here?
I feel so parasocially crazy thinking that Devon is talking about my shout-out when they say I'm not reading that. Like its narcissistic and parasocial to think that yeah?
Spinning bond logo: IO Interactive doing the new Bond game have the opportunity to do the funniest thing when you get an achievement
I have been listening to the backlog of QAs, and having just finished QA 10: November and Devon , do a 4 hour YouTube thing about Disco Elysium. You could do a weekly thing about it and I wouldn't stop listening, ever.
The consecrate/deconsecrate bit from Die Hard 2 makes me cry laughing every time.
For religion season: “The Apostle”
“Red Rooms” is an astonishing film about parasociality. A brutal watch, but amazing. I hope you see it, even if you don’t cover it!
The Red Grant film you describe about taking some kid, pouring him into a suit, and getting him to kill for the government already exists and it's called Kingsmen: The Secret Service (2014)
If you put DEVON IS AUSTIN POWERS on a t-shirt I would buy 100 of them (realistically I would buy 2)
Abi posted Reel on Instagram where she makes and tries the Bovil cocktail.
It was the new Harry Potter show wasn't it? Sounds like the only show that could pull such visceral and understandable reaction from The Crew.
That’s my assumption, which is DEEPLY unfortunate.
*Wes Streeting, hearing a gun cocked behind his head*: "Walther PPKS, 7.65mm. I know only 3 podcast hosts who use such a gun. I believe I have denied healthcare to two." Devon: "Lucky me..."
OH MY GOD WHY DIDN'T I THINK OF THIS BEFORE?! Y'all need to do Little Buddha, In which KEANU REEVES plays Siddhartha Gautama, for Religion Season!
I believe that Walther are too busy sponsoring Steven Crowder, or at least they were years ago

on the topic of deep concealment handguns and their marketing. Yeah! There's a huge hole in how they are marketed, if you look at any of the big popular conceal carry handguns rn i.e.: Springfield hellcat, s@w shield/bodyguard 2.0, whatever number correlates to the Glock ccw pistols cause i can't be assed to remember them, sig p365 they are either marketed to A: dudes with too tight grunt style shirts or B: suburban moms and it shows with how they are styled you either get the most "tacticool" thing with tons of slide serrations or something with like a tiffany blue frame with like a stainless slide. which is fine if you're targeting those markets but you're right that there's really nothing that really inhabits a niche other than the ppk and mayble a couple other pistols that really strikes that level of being in like a fashion magazine as like part of a fit or something, no elegance or panache
I suspect that any kind of acknowledgement of that market would taint the entire brand in the eyes of the main target audience, which is rabid fascists. You might sell some compact handguns to some gay people, but you then risk the company being branded as Woke. You then lose the business of the deeply cooked people who will buy hundreds of guns of all shapes and sizes.
I used to work in an emergency room, and we had a patient come in after having a pre-workout drink because it had overstimulated him to the point that he had an abnormal heart rhythm and was in actual danger. Young healthy guy, no history of heart problems. I don't mess with that stuff.
I re-read the James Bond short stories recently (I think Fleming was a better short story writer than novelist) and I particularly like the idea of making the For Your Eyes Only story a true two- hander, splitting it between bond's prep for the assassination and Judy's odyssey to track down her parents killer. It could be imaginative but true to the story, and also have a major female character.
Hell, do as many of the stories as possible as 60s period pieces.
Chivalry season would be such a good Bonus Season transitioning out of religion season - I wanna hear you do Green Knight!! Excalibur! Knightriders! Things of that ilk
I would upgrade my tier just to hear them talk about Excalibur and young Helen Mirren.
I’m sorry Abi is having a horrible time. I can empathise with life kinda ‘happening’ all at once in an awful way. I’m sure more than a few people here can empathise too. We’ve got to keep going, even if it’s purely out of spite xxx
I agree with Darth Devon; Apathy is death.
Would love it if you all would occasionally do a one-off episode where you talk about books and such you've enjoyed. We listeners can do it too! I have started Cadillac Desert, a book recommended by Liam Anderson. I have also recently finished Ian Toll's Pacific War trilogy, and Max Hastings' The Secret War. Excellent nonfiction. For fiction, Legends and Lattes is a sweet fantasy quasi-romance about an orc warrior opening a coffee shop. Also got into a number of KJ Parker books- fantasy with a style somewhere between Ambercromie and Pratchett. The Engineer trilogy was good, as is Sharps. I wish there was more and better female representation, but it isn't actively painful so that puts him ahead of most in his genre.
The KJB to FTL love is so wholesome. You know when you have dear friends that you love from different parts of your life and they eventually meet and they hit it off just great? Magical. Nothing's better.
Amar Akbar Anthony for religion season
I really need to be more shameless and say things like, "You know, if you really need something to read, I could recommend a book or two." Of course, since this episode was posted long after recording, I'm not sure my shameless plug would be useful.
If they ever do a super hero season please have one or both of the Weekly Planet boys on, I think the vibes would match. The people that brought us the Kauffman Star meeting the people that brought us The Game Is On Award together? Please!
biggest 1 time hog vouch for Devon (and one of the jackal's) takes on the SAW movies, they are so so fun
GUYS!!!! I've got a film about Islam and Judaism!!! When Pigs Have Wings 2011 Set in Gaza, filmed in Morocco and a collab between Israeli and Palestinian film students! I'm tired of being the only one whose seen this film.
The Worst of All Possible Worlds is a great podcast. Lovely guys, insanely diverse range of subjects they cover. All three of our KJB hosts have been guests independently on their show, check out those episodes.
It is a great way to make two hours fly by.
Oh for the bonus episodes during Rom Com season you could just to Lovecraft or Lovecraft adjacent adaptations or mythos inspired movies
I’m really interested in your takes on castration movie 1 and 2, I saw both with a group of friends at the premieres at the Roxy and it was truly an experience
The Absolute DC series are so good. Their Wonder Woman is everything I want in a superhero. Strong, brave, and most importantly, kind and comforting. I love how she goes out of her way to tell the entire city what she's going to do to make sure they aren't scared when it happens, and be brave, because she believes in them. THAT is what a hero is. Also, Wonder Woman was originally created by a man, a man who thought that women were superior to men, and a man who was also in a polyamorus relationship and was really into BDSM.
I keep meaning to watch Professor Marston and The Wonder Women
Speaking of the Beowulf bits, in the youtube comments for Grendel’s Mother somebody wrote “grent people grent people”
*When woke 2.0 (darkWoke) drops* "Presenting Walther ppk TS, for the *bleeep* and *bleeeeeeps*" [Abi kicks a stunt person in the groin, unholsters said gun, kisses superstar actress, also holding a ppk]
Re: bullshot: from „simon hopkinson cooks“, p. 229; shake 50ml vodka, 25ml dry sherry, 4 shakes w‘cshire sauce, same tabasco, juice half lime, celery salt and 150ml Baxter‘s beef consommé over ice, strain to serve. Should resemble "small glasses of Guinness", and be good for a hangover. P. 226 has extended anecdote on his first at hands of nyc hotel barman, who used Campbell‘s instead of Baxter‘s, the stabilisers are important, but at time of writing there were availabllity concerns. If it works, great. If not, i‘m sorry.
The bit about "this doesn't seem like a Real Job™ resonates so hard. I'm a professional geek, I get paid to bite the head off my clients for the entertainment of the organization as a whole. I solve a new and different puzzle every day. Why the FUCK are people paying me to have a great time?
I like to think it's a literal Circus Geek posting this, biting the heads off of chickens
The Bersa Thunder is an almost an exact clone of the Walther PPK but half the price But remember, the Beretta was the gay gun for women. The PPK was the new ballsy one. As a wannabe spy who is also a caffeine addict, I would unironically have the energy drink 007 shit in my car. A 1995 Ford Ranger with a Monster tap
Now imagining a truck so big it has a cellar and barrels of various drinks on tap.
It will be interesting when in Cape Season you inevitably get to doing All Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe properties in order and the podcast just side-loads another fully-realised concept for an entire movie podcast akin to watching all the James Bond Movies.
Since my question was not answered. I leave the answers up to you file people. What is your favorite mideaval pole arm? There are a enough nerds here to give legit answers.
Billiard cue
Absolute Wonder Woman is amazing, and if you want more Hayden Sherman art, their work on Batman Dark Patterns is so good I literally had to put one issue down because the first page went so hard.
A single tear flows down the cheek of the Slow Horse assigned to listen to these and annotate them. "It's true, I do suck."
I've seen a great movie recently. It's called Creation of the Gods 1, Kingdom of Storms. It's a two year old Chinese film that is based in history sort of, but also has fantastical elements to it. Like Lord of the Rings but Chinese and wild.
this made me chuckle way to hard by myself in a filled silent dutch train again. at the part about all the bits
oh we know what that beep is, we knoooowwwww
Okay so Abi mentioned filming something and that she was unhappy with a certain other production filming nearby. Based on their reactions, I think she was filming at Leavesden and the other project was the HP show. Which means she is either filming an untitled Bullock/Kidman project... or Supergirl.
Ever since the Moby Dick episode where she was cagey about her current project, ive kind of been waiting for a Moby Dick adaption to get announced. But we'll just have to wait and see!
hope shit gets better for you abi!!! 😵💫
Never before have I been so curious about a beep.
My guess is h*rry P*++er.
*martin scorsese meme image* absolute wonder woman
Superman also got me back into comics, reading both Absolute and Ultimate from Marvel. Both are fantastic
I know it hasn't aged well because of the writer, but I remain fond of Superman: American Alien. It is a very good take of Clark/Superman as someone who just wants to be helpful.
