S3E22: Some Girls Do
This is the 1969 sequel to 1967's Deadlier Than The Male. Lloyds insurance agent Bulldog Drummond is pitted once again against Carl Peterson and his army of female agents- except this time, something is very, very wrong with the ladies...

FREE PALESTINE
Hey, Devon here. For the past few months I've been talking to a family trapped in Gaza, working to hit their gofundme for passage out of Rafah when the crossing reopens. Their names are Ahmed and Layla, and their 4 kids Jana, Malik, Lana and Amir. While the crossing might be closed, the situation is changing by the day and being able to afford passage out when a crossing reopens is an immense comfort.
Please don't donate money as your sole intersection with palestine organising. You have to do other things now.

I like how they accidentally implied they are fine with Men being Enslaved.
Activated by Sleep - Dopesmoker used to annihilate someone joke
My partner and his best friend will just turn to each other and go “leave my house now” when they’re done hanging out. It’s insane.
In what way was forcing all the women to murder each other NOT unprovoked violence?? You dropped the ball on that one fr.
Genuinely surprised Unprovoked Violence was scored as low as it was given the lobotomized lady murder scene. Drummond didn't need to order those brainwashed women to murder each other. He had the mind control thing. They were no longer a threat. He could've said something like "stand down and follow me" to get them somewhere safe, or "wake up" if we want to be extra optimistic. Within the story that was written there were plenty of other approaches beyond "beat each other to death." I know the scene helped skyrocket the misogyny score, but what can I say I like when number goes up. I think there's also something to say about the way that scene dehumanizes lobotomized people. Mental faculties or not they were still innocent women who deserved to be cared for/reunited with their families, not made to brutalize each other and get incinerated in a hotel explosion. Fucked up movie all around.
Hi, Autistic guy here, was already doing that about the Jericho horn. Pausing the movie and everything
Have you considered watching Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011) for an episode? It's cold war UK vs USSR spy drama full of guys you love to see, a banger soundtrack, cool outfits, gay people. It's critically acclaimed and been called an anti-Bond film.
Cocktail nerd decloaking - the bullshot is from a 50s savory cocktail fad of which the bloody Mary may be the only modern survivor. Cocktail geeks desperate for things to elevate or revive have taken stabs at elevated versions over the last few years, but it turns out they still all sound fuckin vile
The only version I've liked has been a variant called a "Ribeye", which is a specialty of Oakland's Heart and Dagger Saloon. Just a shot of rye whiskey followed by a shot of Worcestershire Sauce. Real "one a night" trick.
The Million Eyes of Sumuru has its own problems, but at least they had the decency to make the leader of their all-woman evil organization bent on world domination and/or insurance fraud a woman.
Neither Euro nor Spy, but I would like to highly recommend Auntie Mame. My partner introduced it to me tonight, and I strongly desire to hear you folks do it. A 60's film which says a lot about gender, class and race. More importantly though, a film which answers the question: "what if Abigail had to adopt a child?"
Eurospy? Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe
Women being lobotomised and made into a robot and now given a serial number instead of a name aka me in 2018
I knew when I was watching the movie that November would pick up on the dive-bomber noise 😂 I found that out years ago, and it has bugged me ever since... Incidentally, that's also the reason every object makes a whistling sound as it drops; the Brits stuck whistles onto some of the bombs that were dropped, and the idea stuck in everyone's heads.
Not sure if this counts as Eurospy per se but The Baader Meinhof Complex might be worth a look. It's been a long time since I've seen it, admittedly
An uncle of mine has bullshots as a midafternoon post-tequila ...snack?
The last boss has been kicking my ass for three [3] days
Not sure if it's a Euro spy and I've never watched it, but I distinctly remember there being a critically ok spy movie called "In Like Flint"
Yeah, it's an American film, sequel to "Our Man Flint". Given that the plot apparently is "It posits an international feminist conspiracy to depose the ruling American patriarchy with a feminist matriarchy.", I really want the pod to cover it.
it’s not eurospy but I really want the kingsman films to get covered just for seeing the gang react to the post credits hitler-lenin handshake scene
Honestly those films were absolutely ruined for me by the Ao3 fandom so that would be a delightful rehabilitation
I feel there were dronification and hypno kink jokes that were (tastefully, mind you) left on the table in this episode. ALSO, I am once again asking the KJB team to please watch C.R.A.Z.Y. by Jean-Marc Vallée. I am insane abt this film, and I really want a November Take on Québecois cinema.
Oh no Now that is a 60s twist
The fact you keep on referring to Foxdie as the No Time To Die Virus makes me worried Culture is changing in ways I don't want. Credit going from a Harry Bisexual to a Harry Wife Beater..... would reviewing the plot of a Metal Gear Game count as a Euro Spie even though the main character is American and it was made in Japan?
November loves it when people crack a whip joke
In the original books Drummond is described as unattractive so if anything he's more accurate now! I assume 30s guy is a nod to his 20s origins too?
Sorry Abi but Moet is dogshit champagne. I'd rather have a decent cremant than that!
Eurospy suggestion: The Tall Blond Man With One Black Shoe (Yves Robert, 1972). A well acted (great casting), if dated, parody to round up the season?
I think I speak for all the stoner fans when I say we're just happy you mentioned Sleep's magnum opus Dopesmoker which everyone should eat too many edibles and then listen to three times in a row.
Me and the boys starting a chant at the back of the venue like “big riffs! Big Riffs! BIG RIFFS!”
I know I sent a DM a couple of weeks ago but since you brought it up my Eurospy recommendation is Danger Diabolik. I mean it's kind of also a heist movie so it can a bridge to next season.
"Sleep by Dopesmoker"?!? That's a cinema sins ding
Nevermind they corrected themselves and Got My Ass
Yessss, looking forward to Alphaville
Eurospy suggestion: The Ipcress File (and subsequent Harry Palmer movies). Please get Milo on so he can do his Michael Caine impression!!
List of Spy fi that would be interesting to hear about: The Constant Gardener, The Tailor of Panama, Eye of the Needle(81), OSS 117: Alerte Rouge en Afrique Noire.
They did the OSS 117 film, just under one of its other titles.
Great episode for a really bad movie. I’m somewhat hoping you do the James Bond/spy movie parody musical Spies are Forever at some point
Loving the Acolyte Abby! My only complaint is they didn't give you more lines. It was nice your character seemed very sensible.
You’ve really got to do In Which We Serve, aside from being a Noel Coward action movie designed to flatter a nonce it’s got an even more deranged Bovril based cocktail.
If this Bulldog Drummond guy was written by an American, these stories would have become the US equivalent of Doctor who: occasionally brilliant, but just as likely kind of terrible mostly.
I am so stoked about this one, this flick was fuckin bonkers
The fact Devon repeatedly sleeps in an alcove instead of crashing on a friend’s couch might be the most Devon thing I’ve heard.
Really adds to the Devon feral childhood vibes in a good way.
I am hearing "Carl Peterson" but I am seeing Jordan Peterson in my mind's eye
People shouldn’t be called Peregrine Carothers
Sidenote about minoxidil, it can kill cats
