Thanks to the opening scene I spent like half an hour wandering around Mongolia in Google Earth street view, and wouldn't you know it looks like a normal place where normal people live. I lived in southern Spain for a few years and many of the towns look almost identical, just shifted a thousand kilometers north.

Just for pedantry's sake : you indeed probably can't windmill start a helicopter in 5 seconds mid-fall like in the movie, however a free-falling helicopter with a dead motor can be landed quite safely, if a bit roughly. Learning how to perform an emergency autorotation is part of standard helo pilot training too, it's not even that complicated (well, not more complicated than the baseline of flying a machine that wants to kill its pilot at all times, anyway).
