[Public] September Update: One Month Since the Move & Futaket 37

Hi! I’m Umami Aimitei.

In my last update, I wrote that the fiber internet at my new place wouldn’t be connected until around the middle of September.

Well—

THE INTERNET HAS RETURNED!!!!

Possibly too much civilization.

Anyway, it has now been almost a month since I moved.

The Move Is Over, and I Survived

First of all, the move itself went fine.

Both my belongings and I successfully reached the new home. The bed and appliances are here, I’m cooking rice, doing laundry, experimenting with the optimal arrangement of my dishwasher... and little by little, this place is starting to feel less like “the place I moved to” and more like “the place where I live.”

It was my first move in around twenty years, so basically everything was a first-time event. There was so much going on that “one thing after another” barely covers it.

But anyway: alive!

Health-wise, I’m not at the “fully recovered!” stage. My sleep and the discomfort around my upper abdomen still fluctuate.

Still, I’m very glad I managed to get through the actual move without a major crash.

I’ve also been slowly building a life in the new area—finding places where I can get bodywork, going for walks, visiting the library and supermarkets, and figuring things out one piece at a time.

I Actually Like the New Area Quite a Lot

There are quite a few things I really like about the area around my new home.

There’s greenery and water nearby, and it’s pleasant to walk around.

The library is also easy to use, and little by little I’m finding places that make me think, “Oh, I like it here.”

I thought moving somewhere unfamiliar might make me feel like I had suddenly been dropped into a completely unknown place, but strangely, it hasn’t really felt that way.

On the other hand...

I might move again.

(...Didn’t I JUST move...???)

Once I actually started living here, quite a few things came up that I couldn’t really have known beforehand—things like certain sounds and how well the environment works with my sleep.

There are also a lot of things I genuinely like about the apartment itself, so I haven’t decided, “I’m definitely leaving!”

But I am looking into whether there might be another environment that suits me better.

Sometimes life just suddenly starts Apartment Hunting Arc: Part Two. Apparently this can happen.

I’m not going to rush it, but I do want to think about it properly.

I’ll Be at Futaket 37

And—I’ll be attending Futaket 37 on September 21!

As I wrote last time:

There is no new book 😭

THERE ISN’T ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But I’m planning to bring some of my older books.

I’d also like to bring some original drawings on shikishi boards, if I manage to draw them.

I am going to start drawing them now.

(If they get drawn, they will exist.)

Everything is extremely vague in this department.

This will also be my first time heading to an event from my new area, so I’m a little excited about that.

Since my health problems started, I’ve cut back quite a lot on the number of events I attend, but I really want to go absorb some Futaket energy again.

There is something about simply existing in that space that gives me energy.

Apparently that is a real thing.

Anyway

I wondered whether everything would finally settle down once the move was over.

It absolutely did not.

I’m still building my daily life, working on my health, thinking about where I want to live, and going to events.

It looks like I’ll remain in the “still putting my new life together” phase for a while.

But compared with the days right before the move in August, I do feel much more like I have my feet on the ground now.

As for manga, rather than trying to immediately return to my old pace, I’d like to keep getting my daily life and health into better shape and gradually build my way back toward being able to draw again.

For now: Futaket on the 21st...!

Thank you, as always, to everyone who continues to support and keep an eye on me. Your support has also helped me enormously while getting this new life up and running. 🦾

Will the shikishi drawings actually exist?!

We shall see.

See you around! o/
