What happens when we are exposed to the opposite sex hormones?
Let’s talk hormones.
Whhen adults (or children) are exposed to the hormones typically associated with the opposite sex, what happens?
Whether it’s for gender-affirming care, medical treatments, certain medical conditions, or just scientific curiosity, introducing testosterone into a body used to estrogen, or vice versa, can have some pretty bizarre effects.
Let’s break it down for each sex hormone.
Estrogen/Progesterone in People Assigned Male at Birth
When someone born with testosterone as their dominant hormone begins taking estrogen and/or progesterone (commonly as part of hormone therapy for trans women or as treatment for prostate cancer), a variety of changes occur over time:
Common physical and physiological effects:
Breast development (gynecomastia)
Decreased muscle mass and strength
Softening of skin
Slower or halted facial/body hair growth
Shrinkage of testicles and decreased sperm production
Reduced libido
Mood shifts – often described as a broader emotional range
Fat redistribution – less in the abdomen, more in the hips and thighs
Many of these changes are gradual and occur over months to years. Some, like breast growth, may become permanent even if hormone therapy is stopped.
Testosterone in People Assigned Female at Birth
When testosterone is introduced, whether for gender-affirming care, treatment of certain conditions, or (less commonly) as part of menopausal care (new but important use), it brings its own list of physiological changes:
Common effects include:
Voice deepening (usually permanent)
Increased facial and body hair (hirsutism)
Increased muscle mass
Cessation of menstruation
Acne and oilier skin
Clitoral enlargement
Scalp hair thinning (male-pattern hair loss in some individuals)
Increased libido
Mood and energy shifts – sometimes more drive, sometimes more irritability
Like estrogen, testosterone’s effects build over time and vary by individual. Some changes are reversible if therapy is stopped, but others (like voice deepening or hair growth) may not fully revert.
Important Caveats
Dosage and supervision matter. These hormones have real medical power and need to be managed carefully.
Risks include: blood clots, liver strain, changes in cholesterol, cardiovascular concerns, and mood disturbances—especially if taken inappropriately or without guidance.
Everyone’s response is different. Age, genetics, body composition, and health history all play a role in how hormones work.
Why This Matters
Hormones shape our bodies in more ways than we often realize. From voice to fat distribution to mood and libido. Understanding how hormones work across different sexes matters for anyone curious about human biology, aging, fertility, or gendered medicine.
Hormones aren’t magic. But they do have a remarkable ability to shift biology in profound (and sometimes surprising) ways.

I will say hello I could not get my app to work when I first got on here and I had to re-download it. It made me resubscribe to you if you could check on me so I don’t get double charged, but I am very interested in your contact.
I've been on trt for a few years I was on testogel but got moved the injections my free test is nearly double the maximum and the test is about 5 or 6 points too high, I can promise you it does not help with sex and it creates a lot of issues.
We love you to
Hi there..Education is Power..im here 4 it friend..Quick question tho..my bestie of 30yrs was recently told she has more male hormones than woman hormones! How is that possible? I was trying 2 put 2 & 2 together from d video but, i couldn't. Ironically, she/we r perimenopausal. Her hair is thinning on top. Ive seen her naked while getting ready 2 go out, but I've nvr said spread em, let me help u figure this out! But, if it saved her life, I most definitely would...so what u think bout that? **plz 4give my ebonics typin style it's just who I am**
It is so well known in the trans guys community that testosterone gel is transferable and to be careful with the areas you applied it to for the 8 hours after around any AFAB people. Lots of us switch to injection form testosterone to avoid any risk to our partners
That’s why bodybuilder women on steroids can have massive clits ?
Yes it will be- they go through basically the same processes that trans guys transitioning FtM go through when taking testosterone. Often the bodybuilders will be taking far higher doses-trans guys only take a dose that takes them to a typical male range- however they do it in cycles so it can balance out. Having went through transition, I often wonder what the long term effect is for female body builders after years of taking testosterone esters-definately premature menopause, but I never know how severe the damage is and if any can be reversed at all, as like many trans guys have shown by becoming pregnant stopping testosterone the body can start producing its own hormones again and often in healthy levels.
Thanks for the post, I have often wondered if I had an "elevated" Estrogen level, which was helping my memory for years. It was only recently learned that it truly was elevated. Now I am learning how the body adapts, converts, and utilizes these hormones,
Just trying to educate others. There is hope. Best sex of my life.
I really love your content I have used several of you videos to help answer questions my kids have had
Thank you so much for being here! Comments like this alsways make my day. Glad I could help.
I have been on larger doses of testosterone for 14 years now. It definitely improves sex drive and my penis size. Remember, use it or lose it. I also practice, penile traction and vacuum pumping and have increased my length by one and a half inches and a much larger girth. I also use yohimbe which helps maintain the erection longer and harder. At 75 years of age, I have solved my ED problem.
Interesting. I can't say I've seen much research supporting any of those things, but as long as your happy with the results that's all that really matters.
