New Common Phrases Are Here - And They’re a Game Changer
I’ve spent the last couple of weeks working on something I’m incredibly excited to finally share with you. If you’re learning English - or any language, really - this update is going to hit hard.
I completely rebuilt the Common Phrases engine from the ground up.
If you’ve been around for a while, you might remember the old section called “Most common phrases in DB.” It worked, but it was limited - it simply counted how often certain phrases appeared in the database.
Now things are very different.
Thanks to new AI capabilities, I was able to take a huge leap forward. Instead of just measuring frequency, I extracted phrases that are actually meaningful, useful, and worth learning. I filtered out all the noise and ended up with:
62,000 real, practical English phrases
1,300+ idioms, cleanly identified and categorized
A powerful new search interface
And here’s something many of you will appreciate:
This works not only in English, but also in other languages available on Playphrase.me - including French, Japanese, and more. Each language now has a curated set of phrases that reflects its natural everyday use, making learning smoother and far more authentic.
You can now filter phrases by language level (A1-C2), by emotion, or even by real-life usage context. Want angry phrases? Romantic ones? Formal? Everyday speech?
It’s all there - and surprisingly fun to explore.
I’m convinced this update makes Playphrase.me tens of times more useful for anyone who wants to truly master natural, real-world language. This isn’t just a new feature - it’s a whole new level of usefulness.
If you enjoy this update and want to support the project, tell your friends about this feature - it helps more than you think.

What about adding a randomizer? Like clicking on a die would randomize the list of phrases or immediately put a random phrase in the search box. Edit: never mind, it's already there :)
I want to improve it a bit - by default, it will be idioms, but if you have something selected in the common phrases menu, random phrases will be from that selection.
that works well!
I'm still considering adding something like this for words.
