My Next Build - SNAKE PASS, UK
Hello everyone...
Those who familiar with my works, type of road that I love to build usually a mountain pass type or popular known as "Touge". To be precise a Japanese mountain pass type. They are narrow, tight hairpin corners, the cambers, dramatic elevation changes, the guard rails, trees and so on, perfectly fits my driving style and the cars I like.
When I build my latest released Tail of The Dragon a.k.a Deals Gap, there is a section called Scenic Overlook. That section so beautiful. The open view of the mountains, the river and the reflection on the river so stunning. Then I realized I never build that type of road yet. An open hillside road with distance view.
So, now I'm ready to take on the challenge of building this type of wide panoramic views road. After long consideration, my choice is Snake Pass UK, Why ? because last time The Dragon, now its time for The Snake and not sure what next :) just kidding :P
The real reason is Snake Pass looks easy to build. The road layout is simple and surrounding terrain is perfect for the experiential. But for the sake of FPS and my ancient PC, I need to divide the section and plan the LOD carefully.
The W.I.P
For the past two days, I started gather all information about Snake Pass. I got lucky because Google Earth provided very clear satellite images to draw the road layout.
Overall road length is 14.3 miles (23km) and 11.6 miles (18.6km) between Start to Finish point.
Google Earth kml data also perfect, not much corrupted like data in Asia region. In software I use, the road mesh align perfectly with aerial view map with minimal tweak.
Also the elevation data is good. Not perfect but good enough to get the basic elevation change.
One thing that always worry me is to get the Google Maps Static and Google Maps Elevation API. Without these two data, I cannot create exactly real life Snake Pass surrounding terrain and mountains. Lucky I still can use API key that I create when build the Dragon. Here is the result. I will add Normal Map into this later and it will make this look more alive.
Ok thats it guys. I will try to update the progress of this Snake Pass project more often. I cannot give you release date for alpha or beta test. I never rush my track work. Not sure how long this work will take. Probably 2 - 3 month.
Wish me luck and thank you for your support :)

A year later nearly and I'm wondering how this project is going. I've travelled the Snake pass for years and was looking forward to seeing it in the game. Especially as you come across Lady Bower.
hello I live like 5 mins from the snake pass can I do anything to help???
you are the best bro im waiting your new map!!!!
Kaido sir I support you in any road/track you decide to make, and I understand not rushing or working on what you don't enjoy...with that said when could we expect a finished Usui? (its sooo close lol) :P
I almost forgot about Usui. I learned lot of new things while building the dragon. Gonna apply it on Usui.
I’ll send you a live video of the whole road if you want just let me know I love driving it it’s awesome!!
Yes, thank you
I drive that road at least 30times a year it’s about 20mins on the motorway from my house I live in Bury…..can’t wait for this mate so excited 😍😍😍
Awesome.cant wait
Oh my god! I've always wanted to see more UK roads in Assetto Corsa, and one from Project Kaido? That's amazing! One of my dreams is to somehow get Hartside Pass into Assetto Corsa, it's only a 4 mile stretch of road from the top down to Melmerby but really fun to drive and great views, just like Snake Pass. Good luck and looking forward to seeing the progress!
hey man, dont know if you know, but you can get all the lidar data for UK off the government website, much better than the google data
I see, I'll try it. I always want to learn how to use LIDAR data. Thanks for the info
