Development Update 8.28.2026
Hello everyone!
We're only a couple of days away from the end-of-the-month release of NeonStrip Version 0.37.0a!
This week has mainly been focused on visual improvements, gameplay fixes, new clothing, and final adjustments as I prepare the next build for release.
Dynamic Depth of Field
One of the bigger visual improvements this week is the implementation of a new Dynamic Depth of Field System.
Depth of Field can now adapt based on what the player is doing, rather than relying on the same settings everywhere.
• Added dynamic Depth of Field during normal gameplay.
• Added different DOF behavior for Third-Person and First-Person gameplay.
• Improved character focus during conversations and close interactions.
• Improved Depth of Field during Character Creation.
• Added separate DOF behavior while driving.
• Added additional runtime controls for adjusting focus depending on the current gameplay situation.
The goal is to give scenes more depth and a more cinematic appearance without sacrificing visibility of important characters or objects.
Dialogue UI Redesign
The Dialogue UI has received a major visual redesign.
The previous interface took up a considerable amount of screen space during conversations. I've simplified the design to make it much less intrusive while keeping the important conversation information easily accessible.
• Redesigned the Dialogue UI with a cleaner and more minimal layout.
• Removed unnecessary visual clutter from conversations.
• Reduced the amount of screen space occupied by the interface.
• Improved visibility of NPCs and the surrounding environment during dialogue.
Combined with the new Dynamic Depth of Field, conversations now have a much cleaner and more cinematic presentation that keeps the focus on the character you're actually talking to.
Visual Effects & Rendering
I've also been restoring and adjusting several rendering features that had previously been disabled or removed.
• Reimplemented Screen Space Global Illumination (SSGI).
• Continued adjustments to lighting and post-processing.
• Restored and refined additional visual effects.
• Made further visual and performance adjustments throughout the game.
Combined with Dynamic Depth of Field, these changes are helping improve the overall presentation and atmosphere of NeonStrip.
New Outfits
More clothing has also been added to the game.
• Added several new outfit pieces.
• Continued integrating clothing with the new Body Shape System.
• Continued adjusting existing clothing to properly fit different body variations.
• Additional clothing compatibility and clipping fixes.
Body shapes and clothing have been a major part of development throughout this month, and the system will continue expanding beyond Version 0.37.0a.
Adult Mode Progression
An important gameplay change this week has been the reimplementation of progression requirements for Adult Mode.
Adult interactions are once again tied to relationship progression rather than being immediately available.
Players will need to build their relationship with a character and reach the appropriate progression requirements before certain interactions become available.
I've also continued fixing and refining the transition between Dialogue and Adult Mode to make the overall interaction flow more reliable.
Radio Volume Control
A small quality-of-life feature has also been added to the Radio System.
The Interaction Wheel now includes a dedicated Radio Volume Slider.
This allows players to adjust the radio volume independently without affecting the rest of the game's audio.
Additional Fixes & Improvements
• Continued bug fixing ahead of the monthly release.
• Additional gameplay and interaction fixes.
• Continued visual and rendering adjustments.
• Continued improvements to existing systems.
• Final testing and preparation for Version 0.37.0a.
Version 0.37.0a Is Almost Here
We're now only a couple of days away from the end-of-the-month release.
August has included quite a bit of development across NeonStrip, including Body Shape variations, clothing compatibility, Player and NPC Cover, improved Dialogue Context Awareness, Dynamic Depth of Field, the redesigned Dialogue UI, new outfits, visual improvements, gameplay fixes, and numerous smaller refinements throughout the game.
There has also been some other work happening behind the scenes, but I'll save that for another discussion.
For now, the priority is getting Version 0.37.0a ready, tested, and released.
Thank you, as always, for continuing to support NeonStrip!
I'll see you again very soon for the Version 0.37.0a release.
