The way I was waiting to see you watch Debbie turn into a bug haha Personally I love to watch 3 and 4 back to back. I promise you, you can watch 5 and 6 on Wednesdays. New Nightmare and Freddy vs Jason can be Night vision

This one is my favorite in the series, but I totally get why it's not someone's jam. Outside of Debbie's roach death, it isn't very scary, and this is the turning point where Freddy gets pretty quippy, but there are a lot of things to love about this movie. The characters are very memorable. They don't necessarily have as much gravitas as the characters from Nightmare 3, but Alice is probably my favorite character in the entire franchise, and Rick... we will never see another like Rick again. And even Alice's dad has this whole arc. I've always gotten the impression that he started drinking, or at least the problem got really bad, when his wife died, and it's his son's death several years later that snaps him out of it and gets his to realize he wasted years of his kids' lives being an asshole. It's a surprisingly nuanced arc for a slasher series, especially for an adult, especially when the parents in Springwood tend to be... well... Kristen's mom. But I really love the whole Dream Master concept, that Alice and Freddy are these cosmic opposites destined to check each other, the Psycho-like twist of setting Kristen up to be the hero of this film, then killing her 1/3 of the way through and switching the focus to Alice, Alice absorbing her friends' talents and aspects of their personalities, slowly uncovering the mirror. It's so cool. And I love me a suiting up sequence. This Nightmare was often called the MTV Nightmare, and you can see and hear that it relies heavily on its soundtrack, which is admittedly banger after banger. But it also has to do with the editing. This movie is very quickly paced, a little too quickly for my taste. We had so many great characters, I really think the movie would have benefited from more time with them, rather than having them get picked off one after the other with little happening in between each murder. Fun note: Joey was mute in the last film. In this one, he's obsessed with music and MTV, and he has a sick stereo system. There's also a nice bit of character consistency that once again, it's his dick that gets him in trouble. Fun note 2: The teacher in that class droning on about the dream gates was Bob Shaye, last seen as the bartender in the S & M bar back in Nightmare 2. Shaye was the head of New Line Cinema.

This was the first horror movie I watched in full at a friends house (at his moms suggestion) when I was 8 and he was 6. I don’t think he really payed attention but this movie traumatized me for over a year. I would get so scared when I thought about it that I wouldn’t breathe/id hold my breath and panic (before we knew what panic attacks were) so I thought I had asthma and would die like the character Sheila. My mom had to take me to a therapist and I even had 2 inhalers (probably placebos). Now watching it I enjoy it so much but I will never forget how it affected me

Nightmare on Elm Street 4 is where Freddy became a full on quip machine and we never really get scary Freddy again. (Unless you count New Nightmares as a mainline story)
