[NO SPOILERS, that would ruin it] THANK YOU SOO MUCH FOR WATCHING THIS!.... Started Friday and am almost caught up. Was going to wait to comment, but I recognized the obvious writing progression in this episode and couldn't. I didn't ever watch Buffy; for some reason at some point { Angel was started, Binged, purchased DVD rewatched, eventually digital purchased and then, Buffy was on sale, but not watched}. (watching now cause of you, so grateful!). Searched during this episode, It may have been already mentioned: Angel S1E1 Aired at 9pm weekly following Buffy S4E1 at 8PM, and now (for me) this watch along carries soo much more weight. Because, I know how amazingly progressive the quality of content increases with Angel, my expectations for the rest of this series will be next level (Your Marvel Endgame++, for me) unless of course you watch PennyDreadful not holding my breath. Thanks again,

So, as a veteran let me explain that the weapon she fires is an AT-4, or fourth generation single use anti-tank. It's designed for maximum armor penetration so it was a pretty good choice for the judge. Also, the armory is much more than a shack with a simple key lock. It's a vault or, if it contains a large amount of ammunition, a bunker with a very thick steel door. It's usually not actively guarded at night because only a few people have the key and codes and if you try to force your way in a very loud alarm will sound off and a bunch of MPs will swarm out. If a soldier tried to sneak a random girl in there, he will find himself in a jail cell. I'm sure that's what everyone is interested in talking about this episode : )

I'll be honest about Buffy. It never really returns to that first season of fun camp. It's there but it's never the overriding theme of the show anymore. Buffy is very much a show about growing up using the monsters and demons as metaphors for real life. Angel is the sweet and kind boyfriend who turns into a monster after he gets what he wants. And I could write a whole essay about how Oz is the intentional counter to Angel in this episode. He's everything Angel isn't. I hope we stick with it because I really do love this show. And I do hope we eventually get to my favorite episode: Once More With Feeling. All the way in Season 6. No one spoil what it is though!

And this is how the show tricked viewers , you thought Spike would be a Big Bad of the season but it’s Angel

“What was that an ash arrow?” Getting pumped for ACOTAR 6!

I love how honest the show is about the teenage experience. How intense love can feel at that age, how big problems seem, how everything can seem like the end of the world. A big part of the show is how it uses monsters and demons as metaphors for real life. It unironically does a better job at representing the teenage experience than most other forms of media. Happy Buffy Tuesday!

Was so excited to see these both posted today.

Yeah. This two-parter really shifts the series into a new gear. Up until now Buffy has mostly been a lot of fun, but the emotional impact of "Innocence" in particular can't be denied. This is a turning point for the show and for the better. Thanks for doing both episodes in one week! This was an unexpected "Suprise!" for me. (.....You see what I did there? *nudge wink wink*) For the sake of soft spoilers, I hope comments don't warn that you may need tissues for specific episodes, but I think a vague piece of advice that you MAY want to keep a box of tissues handy when watching Buffy from this point onward (just in case) may be warranted. See you next week!

THANK YOU! That "you may need tissues" line is so frustrating. Setting expectations for first time reactors is almost as bad as straight spoilers. If I was watching a trailer for an episode and they told me to "bring tissues" I'd be pissed. Then the whole episode I'm sitting there wondering "when is the sad part coming" and it ruins the whole thing.

well Nat you did say earilier you wanted to see Evil Angel. be careful what you wish for. Also this weekend i was meant to meet David Borenaz but had to cancel the con appearance. but still decent amount of Buffy and Angel Supporting cast going finally meeting Charisma Carpenter and Kathrine Sutherland t also J august Richards (he plays a main character on Angel) and Amber Bensen (shes an acter from later seasons) Julie Benz who was Darla in season 1, also not Buffy related but my favorite Superman actor Tyler Hochlin is there too with Elizabeth Tullock who was his Lois lane in the Sperman and Lois series from a few years ago which I'd recommend.

Great call on going back to back with these episodes.

😢 Poor Buffy. Glad you watched those two back to back.

There’s episodes of Buffy that will have you crying harder than the last of us. Doesn’t sound likely but trust me it is.

Nate · September 15, 2026

You are correct! The actor playing the Judge is the same actor who played Luke in the first couple episodes of the series. One of my favorite things about this show is that it covers all the emotions. Often within a couple of episodes. This is both a compliment to the show and a warning to you, lol. Remember when you were so happy that Jenny and Giles got back together? Yeah......

That's Brian Thompson. He played so many characters on genre shows of the time. He played the alien hunter on X-files, played nearly a dozen different aliens on Star Trek shows.

Hi Natalie - This is the episode where the consequences arise and the reign of Angeles starts. Again, a Classic Buffy episode that balances the loss and grief in Buffy with the rise of Willow and Oz, while Jeni Calender's backstory is caught in the dark web of what was to come, and Xander has an idea that lands them in the Mall with Buffy firing a shoulder launched middle to Explode the Judge. The plot formula is always full of some unexpected Twists that always keep you engaged. Look out for the Next One! Cheers! Dave

I will always remember when I first cried while watching Buffy. It was in season 3 and it involved an umbrella.

PopeScooby · September 15, 2026

Fair warning Natalie... some episodes of Buffy will make you cry, so you may want tissues on hand just in case it's one of those episodes.

B
Bobby B · September 15, 2026

i can think of a few episodes were the kind thing to do would be to warn her she'll need tissues but it risks prepairing her too much. im mainly thinking of "that" episode if you get my meaning.

Thanks for doing both can't wait to watch when I get home.

“That was then… this is now.” TELEVISION HISTORY!!!!! Angel’s curse is one of the cruelest, most horrifically poetic punishments I’ve ever seen tbh. Cursed with his soul so that he can feel the guilt for all the pain he’s caused - and if he ever feels a moment of true happiness, ever forgets the monster that he was, that soul is stripped away again to remind him… nightmare nightmare nightmare excellent writing Giles at the end like 😭😭😭 that’s her DAD

P
Peter Warton · September 17, 2026

As we can clearly see, Angelus is happy - ecstatic, even - not to have a soul anymore. That's not a punishment for him (him the demon). In truth, it's actually a pretty huge flaw in the Romani curse as it literally brings Angelus back into the world.

Angelus is here!!! And Oz and Willow are so cute. Glad that we're getting both parts to this one today. Have a great day today! Stay Golden! 💛
