(John Summit & Fanu mixes) Mix levels for kick, clap/snare and bass part 2
As I work on several songs a day, I often need to lock things down fast levels-wise.
While your ears are often your number one tool, some other ways to make sure you are in the ballpark can be absolutely great.
Here, I am sharing a tip I haven't showed you before that will help you get your drums and bass into the ballpark.
Let's take a look at two John Summit songs and an unreleased song of mine too to hone these in.
I always mix drums and bass first, and once I nail those, mixing other levels is often much easier. So learn the levels and have become a little faster in getting the mix hierarchy right.
I have covered this earlier on another video, but measuring levels was slightly different there. Once you learn these both, you will be acing it in no time!

really helpful, love this stuff thanks mate
Did John premix these stems or are your mixes usually that minimal?
A lot of John Summit songs over the years have been 20-35 tracks, approx. Of course he, just like any producer, mixes things as far as he can and I pick up from there. I recall "Undo" felt very unmixed, for what it's worth: there are times when a producer doesn't necessarily take it very far, or they decide to flick all plugins off prior to exporting tracks (it's not what I ask for, but am often fine with it).
