Let's work on more aggressive Amen DNB! (video + samples) [Short Studio Masterclass #7]

Amen break for life!

I'm back to working on more DNB so wanted to share a few thoughts on working with the Amen break. I'm sharing a great-sounding Amen break with you and I'm dropping a few plugin tips and mix thoughts as I go. Compression, EQ, transient tips, great free saturator etc.

Yea_I like the breaks of Silence in spots for sure. I think this technique is important in all genera.

I enjoyed this. Been wanting to get back into working with the Amen, especially after seeing the Dom & Roland Tramen tutorial. As a UAD user, do you have any recommendations for UAD plugins that do the transformer portion of the processing chain? It sounds like, from what you said, transformer plugins saturate/colour the sound, but is there more that they do?

I believe almost all UAD plugins are faithful analog emulations. This means they have an analog input stage, meaning even driving the signal into them loud enough should add this nice analog roasting. This is why I sometimes just drive signals into them hot without doing any other processing necessarily. Plugins like Helios, Neve etc that are clearly analog originally can offer very nice tones when pushed.

Good one. I never get bored of the amen. This sounds great.. fat sound. Nice to see you trying Reaper as well as it's all I use.

So easy to screw yourself with stuttery drums. It's like adding chilli to your meal haha.
