Seven Sins System Chapter 903. Poison IV
My fingers dug into the altar.
My entire body trembled.
For one horrible moment, I felt Puriel's holy energy rush into my channels alongside the poison.
White light flashed behind my eyes.
Then…
[Foreign Toxin Extraction Complete]
[Puriel's Demonic Contamination: 0%]
[Angelic Core Stability: 71.3%]
[Core Fracture: Present]
[Natural Holy Regeneration Resuming]
Finally.
I lifted my head. Tried to breathe. Failed. Coughed. Black blood spilled from my lips. My tentacles reacted immediately, one injecting neutralizing essence while another supported my shoulder.
[Emergency Neutralization Activated]
[Foreign Contamination: 4.8%]
[Neutralization In Progress]
My vision darkened around the edges.
I knew that feeling. Too much energy spent. Too much poison. Too much holy power inside a body that fundamentally hated the stuff.
I tried to sit upright. My arms disagreed. Then my legs. Then apparently the rest of my body decided it had collectively resigned. I collapsed forward. Right onto Puriel, like a sack of potatoes with horns.
Fortunately, I managed to turn my head at the last second, resting my cheek against her shoulder instead of crushing her damaged core.
One tentacle caught part of my weight.
Another gave me the final injection.
I grunted. Cold spread through my veins. The burning slowly eased. Not completely. Enough. I closed my eyes. “Okay…” My voice sounded terrible. “Let me rest.”
I couldn't move.
My body had decided movement was an optional luxury, and I had apparently exceeded my daily allowance. So I stayed there.
Half sprawled across the altar. One arm around Puriel's waist. My face resting near her shoulder. Breathing. Slowly.
Her familiar scent surrounded me.
For a while, neither of us moved. Then something brushed against my hair. Weakly.
I opened one eye.
Puriel was looking at me. Her eyes were half-open, unfocused but unmistakably conscious. “El…”
I smiled faintly. “Hey.”
She tried lifting her head. Failed.
Yeah, same situation.
“Save your energy,” I murmured. “Your core's still in bad shape.”
Her eyes moved across my face. My lips. The blood. The burns. Her expression changed. “El…”
“Don't.”
She ignored me. Her arm moved. Slowly. She wrapped it around my shoulders. Then pulled me closer.
She barely had enough strength. But I felt it. Her fingers settled against the back of my neck, trembling slightly as she held me.
I went quiet.
Puriel pressed her cheek against my hair. “Why…”
I closed my eyes.
“Why did you do this…?”
I could have given her a sensible answer. Unfortunately, I was still me. I shifted my head enough to look at her. “Because you're mine.”
Her eyes softened.
I gave her a tired, crooked grin. “And I'm a possessive bastard.”
A faint smile touched her lips. “You really are…”
“Glad we agree.”
Her fingers tightened weakly against my neck.
I settled closer, careful not to put pressure on her core. “You need to pay me for this.”
Puriel blinked slowly, her eyes studying my face as though she were trying to determine whether I was serious.
Considering my current condition, I probably looked like a dying demon.
“What kind of payment?” she whispered.
I smiled, although the movement pulled at the burns around my lips.
Ouch!
Even smiling was expensive now.
“Well, you're here, aren't you? That means your mother has already agreed to my terms.”
Her eyebrows drew together. “What terms?”
I lifted my head slightly, meeting her eyes. “That you belong to me. You belong to Wrath.”
For a moment, she simply stared. Then her expression softened into something that made the remaining pain in my chest considerably more inconvenient. “El…” Her trembling fingers brushed through my hair. “I will always belong to you. You don't have to request that.”
I lowered my gaze. “No, I have to.”
She went quiet.
“Because among all the devils in the Shadow Realm, your mother will probably hate me the most.”
Puriel frowned. “Why?”
I exhaled slowly, feeling the lingering holy energy scrape against my throat. “Because the creature she kicked out of the Light Realm a long time ago…” I paused, watching her expression carefully. “The Ancient One. It's inside my body.”
Her fingers stopped moving. That was the reaction I expected. She knew enough about the Ancient One to understand what its existence meant to the Light Realm. And she knew her mother well enough to realize that certain decisions weren't made out of kindness.
“If she finds out,” I continued quietly, “what makes you think she won't try to separate us?”
Silence settled between us.
Puriel looked at me, her lips slightly parted, but no answer came. I wasn't afraid of her mother in the conventional sense. I was the Lord of Wrath, Diablo's son, and a walking collection of reasons why sensible people should invest in stronger doors. Or gates.
But I knew how rulers thought. More importantly, I knew exactly how her mother’s mind worked.
Her hand tightened around my shoulder, and I immediately noticed the faint flicker of discomfort crossing her face.
She was still recovering. Her core remained cracked, and I had just spent over an hour poisoning myself to give her a chance to heal. This wasn't the time to burden her with celestial politics.
I brushed a loose strand of pale hair away from her cheek. “Don't think about it too much.”
“But El—”
“Nope. I've already suffered enough today.” I settled against her shoulder again, carefully avoiding her chest. “I want to rest. Maybe a cuddle. Maybe more.”
She blinked. “More?”
I gave her my most shameless grin. “Maybe a little sexy time. After all, Patience already thinks I'm a pervert. Might as well live up to my reputation.”
Puriel's cheeks immediately turned pink.
I chuckled, then immediately regretted it when my throat protested. “Ugh, okay. Laughing hurts.”
“Then stop saying ridiculous things!” She gave me a weak, exasperated look before gently stroking my hair again. “You're not doing anything until you're healed.”
I sighed dramatically. “Cruel woman. Taking advantage of a defenseless patient.”
“You're the one who asked for payment.” Her lips curved into a tired smile. “Then stay here.”
I closed my eyes as her fingers resumed their gentle movements. “Gladly.”
