Update - 16/05/2022
Hello! How are you, guys? I hope you all had a great weekend. Friday and Saturday night I was home playing WFRP, and on Sunday I went and spent the day with my father and siblings, I hadn't seen my sister in about a year since she lives in another town. It was nice! Today's a holiday here so I'll spend it home writing.
This week has been mostly spent, once again working on editing Across a Thousand Dead Worlds. I posted a project update about it, and showed some of the things that are happening behind the curtain. I think I've finally nailed the combat section of the rules, which was all over the place before Vi got into it and moved stuff around and asked me to write more examples and organize it all better, which I did! We've divided combat into three sections: the pre-combat phase, where you identify what you'll be fighting and if you're going to actually get into a fight (because if you're using stealth and the creature doesn't detect you, you can walk away if you want to); once we know combat is happening, you enter the set-up phase, which is where you determine the combat area, see who deploys where, who has initiative, etc. And finally, we have the combat itself, and this is where we explain all your combat options and what exactly happens, and how. As I said, it all has a much better flow now, I'm really happy!
While I was working on that Vi's been busy editing chapter 4, which is already halfway there. It's the chunkiest chapter, and most likely the most complex one too, so I'm glad it's moving along nicely.
I've also had time to work on the Empire Undying character creation rules. I finished most of the background stuff, and spent a lot of time coming up with the type of names that you can expect from each of the different cultures that form part of the Acavian Empire, which is a total of six. They're all based on real world stuff but with my own twists, and I'm trying really hard to make it difficult to recognize any of them because I really want to avoid tropes or any type of associations with any real world thing; I just used existing languages as the basis for my invented ones, because it really simplifies the whole process. I'm still not sure how deep I want to go with the details about the different cultures; I know I'll have a section describing each region at a glance but probably not much more than that, since the focus of the game (for now) is on the island of Theni.
So this week I'll continue doing the same, working on ATDW and EU. I'm so ready to be done with ATDW so I can start the next phase and work more dedicatedly on EU, if I'm being honest, but there's still lots to do!
Hope everyone has a great week!
