Update - 08/11/2020
Hello! First of all, to all my American friends: congratulations on voting to kick Trump out of office! I hope this is the start of a new beginning for your country.
Now back to games; as many of you have already seen, I soft-announced the release of the Disciples of Bone & Shadow: Conquered Sun edition on our Discord, as well as the changes to the Disciples line. I'm very excited to start this new chapter in the game's development! I'm hoping I'll be able to have the new Blackoath store set up this starting week, and with it the pre-orders for our deluxe version of the book. This week I'll also continue working on the next Patreon content for Disciples, and I will continue working on applying the HP and damage changes to the Basic edition of Disciples, and to the Narrative Playbook. I will also continue working on the content I am creating for the upcoming number of The Harrowings zine. It's going to be a very cool project, and there are some amazing creators taking part in it. It will soon be announced publicly, I think.
Past week I started working on a huge revamp for Under Ashen Skies. Combat already worked pretty differently than on my other games from the very beginning, but now I realized that, in order to speed it up even further (since combat is the main mechanic in the game; it's a dungeon crawler, after all), I needed to ditch the D100 system. Why, you ask? Well, my goal is to make combat a single roll; I could do it with a D100 system, I suppose (rolling one set of D10s for you, and another set for the opponent, 4 total), but it's much simpler to take 2 D20, assign one to you and one to your opponent, and whoever rolls higher wins (after applying some modifiers, which are the meat of the system). It takes seconds to resolve, and it has a lot of optional deepness. I sincerely think that this has the potential to be one of the best combat systems in any RPG, and I cannot wait to share it with you all. But yeah, this means turning all skills from a value of 1 to 100 into a value of 1 to 15. It's all very easy, very simple, and you guys are going to love it, I'm sure of it. So this week I'll continue doing this revamp (since it affects all the rules, I need to go over about 200 pages of content to fix it), and the other things I've mentioned.
This past week I've also devised a neat system of daily "patronage" for Under Ashen Skies. Essentially, each day of the week is presided over by a different Protogenos. They each apply a modifier to certain things randomly, for the whole day. For example, Metis presides over Fridays, and her domain is that of wisdom and deep thought, which translates into more or less Mneme (the kind of currency/XP/resource used in the game) gains. The cool thing is, you can build a shrine to each one of the Protogenoi and try to curry favor with them. It adds an extra layer of control and choice to the game, and I really like it!
I'm also trying to add more to the lost memories aspect of the game; so far you recover lost memories, but I want more from it; I may add a bit of journaling game into this. We'll see!
I think this is enough for today, hope you all have a great week!
