Under Ashen Skies - Crafting recipes poll
Hello guys! Today I need your opinion, so you tell me what you think will be best for Under Ashen Skies. Crafting plays a crucial role in the game, since you'll be scavenging crafting materials to fix and make gear and other stuff. The question is, how do you think these crafting recipes should be unlocked? Some of them are too important to randomize so I'm thinking they'll be unlocked by level, but the least crucial ones I think are going to be tied to the Dramatis Personae; key NPCs that appear now and then, like a recurring cast. So the question is: Should each DP have a fixed set of recipes, or should they grant access to a random table of recipes? Keep in mind that finding this or that DP is also random, and that you must first earn their favor! A third, more ideal option would be that you get some type of currency that you can spend on unlocking the recipes, but it really doesn't fit, thematically... Let me know if you have any better ideas down in the comments!

I voted for fixed list, but would be cool with a randomized list if there was a way unlock other recipes on that NPC's table. I'd hate to get locked out of a favorite recipe cus I met the NPC, but didn't roll that recipe when figuring out what they know.
I'm thinking that, since who you meet is already randomized, once you meet a DP you can pick to learn 1 of their available recipes. That way it's not a random hell and you know that as long as you find the right DP you'll get what you need.
I think the recipes are a skills the npc knows and this therefore makes more sense to the game world. It also gives a reason to win the favor of an npc. This dude has that recipe for that super cool thing that my character would love to have...
Exactly! Glad we're all on the same page. I'll do that, then! We can always tweak it once we start playtesting it.
I'll put my toe into the water and say that it should be fixed in order to add more structure to the game. Without knowing all the details of UAS, I can't be absolutely sure, but I think that having clear goals to strive for helps to make it more fun, and it gives each character a bit more of an opportunity for uniqueness. Maybe there is a specific set of recipes because that character has a particular profession or interest? That kind of thing.
Yeah that is what I was thinking as well, and it was my personal favorite option, but I thought I would ask cause I'm not always right, haha. Thanks!
