Read SOLVER #15 (WOBBLY HEAD pt 4/4) in full now
Happy Sunday to you, my valued subscriber.
So here it is, the final part of Wobbly Head, which resolves not only this story but also (fingers crossed) the story arc of my 2020 series WICKED THINGS. My aim was to tell a story that would stand alone, while also satisfying people who bought the earlier series. That's a hard needle to thread but I did my best. I think this has been some of my favourite work to date; after a long gestation it really came together.
The next PDF issue download will be in ten weeks - this latest one is slightly extended (24 pages of story) and covers eight weeks of website material, and will be followed by a two week break to accommodate my finishing what follows, the 33-page SAVAGE SWORD OF SUSAN SUMMER SPECIAL (SSSSS, or S5, or S^5). I'll try to fill the fortnight's gap here with some low-grade intrigue as always.
Thank you for your kind comments on this story, the longest one I've done on my own for several years. You can download your PDF under the cover art.

I am looking forward to binging this and then re-reading it slowly on the website. I enjoy that process a lot, since already knowing what happens makes it easier to savour the details in each page. However! The link does not seem to be working for me it doesn't show up in the blog post, and the link in my e-mail just redirects to an error. It's probably an issue with my membership, but I'm not sure what.
I just tested it now and it works fine, if you continue to struggle, send me a DM and I'll give you an external link to the PDF.
Wow, thanks. So much relief with the closure!
Great story can’t wait for the next thing. I real like how you get across a characters personality and character with their clothing and body shape. It makes it very easy to imagine them in real life.
Reminds just how expansive the wardrobes of these characters are. There’s basically never one consistent outfit (minus things like Lottie’s puffer jacket), and that helps a lot with making the world feel alive.
A good finale. It'll be nice to get a break with a bit of a wind down after this harrowing adventure and get back to low stakes cozy mystery solving, but this epic was well worth the trip. Happy returns, a truly engaging arch enemy for Lottie, attempted murder.
Absolutely a delight as always! Very much fun indeed.
It really didn't disappoint! Very cool to get 2 new comics in the same week too.
I wonder if getting self-published Giant Days 5 means we’ll get another look at the younger, more abhorrent Dean. He was always a highlight in GD. Assuming S5 even is that because no one actually said it had to be set in the Giant days era.
I assumed it was a follow up to that abandoned comic featuring that US-trademarked literary character, only without said character.
A summer of Susan sounds dangerous, violent, wild and amazing. Yes!
Thank you John!
I am very confused. Who is the ghost?
I'm not going to go into plot points here in the comments to avoid spoilers but if you come up with three quick guesses, send them to me in a message and I'll bet you one of them will be right.
Great stuff, thank you!
Brilliant conclusion and a nail biter! Fantastic!
Incredibly satisfying ending John, thank you so much for this exclusive viewing of Lottie & Co's ultimate adventure thus far.
A great story in many ways! I don't normally read these in such a ready format as PDF, but I had to know how it all came out...! Thanks.
Careful of spoilers, Glenn
Normally I prefer to read your comics online every Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday, but Wobbly Head has been so damn good, the suspense is too much. I may just have to cave in and download that PDF.
I do both because I look forward to what everyone has to say with each page
Thank you John!
Thank you, John! It's taking all my resolve not to dive into this immediately, but I will try to try to stay strong. Super-excited for Susan and her Savage Sword!
With hindsight, I feel like perhaps Wicked Things should’ve focused entirely on solving the murder, so it would’ve been a better standalone piece given that it wasn’t able to go beyond its six-chapter run. But with that same hindsight, and knowing how it would lead into Solver, I’m glad that the safer option wasn’t taken. It’s been a bit of a messy road to get here, both in terms of making this story and the road Lottie’s life took in-universe, but it made getting her all the more worth it. She’s come a very long way from that encounter with a certain froggy, and I look forward to wherever she goes next.
"I don't know how to stop! And I don't know how to do anything else!" Lottie is GLORIOUS!
Don’t know how intentional the thematic meaning of that line was, but I feel like it perfectly sums up the nature of Solver, and probably Lottie as a whole. It’s always helped her at her very best, and it’s (assumedly) helped her during the most aimless and conflicting part of her life.
Sigh, of course I binged. Loved the twists and turns (I accuse!), and the art is great.
I loved it!
oh no!!!
Brilliant!
That was everything I could have hoped for and more 👏
Aaaaaaaaaah! I promised myself I wouldn’t read it all at once, then devoured it in seconds. So much! So good!
Thanks pal!
