This week, James and Jimmie discuss the 1957 murder of a man in Los Angeles, California, who thought he was answering the door for a late night trick or treater.

Small town murdsr
I debate. Betty knew! 😳👍
Calling coffee klatch friends a sewing circle is so funny considering we know at least Joan likes women and it’s LA in the 1950s; there were reportedly a number of queer actresses in Hollywood who were referred to as the sewing circle.
"Let me get a gander at that cock" has been stuck in my head all week.
I love a Halloween mystery!
did I hear Jimmie say “6 or 7 years?” 😏😏😏
Thanks for including the pictures guys! This was a great one. 👏
“It’s a compliment ladies” 😂😂 Thanks James
Thank you for annexing the photos!!! It’s terrific!!!!🥰
The polygraph was a printer ...
I forgot about this case! Wow!!! lol you both crack me up - Scissor Friend 🤣
Why would Betty give the police Joan's name of she was in on it though? I don't think she was a part of it.
Peter and Betty were both gay. I worked for a couple just like them as receptionist in their salon. Betty probably got tired of the of the lie they were living. And yes she knew.
My husband's grandmother was a lesbian. She married a philandering veteran and she had her girlfriends. He was an abusive asshole and clearly favored his son over his daughter.
lol. Necco wafers.
Before his acting career, Danny DeVito worked as a licensed hairdresser and cosmetologist at his older sister Angela's salon in Asbury Park, New Jersey. He became skilled at perms, finger waves, and popular 1960s styles like the beehive. When a regular salon client passed away, her family asked DeVito to style her hair for the funeral. This led to a part-time gig preparing the hair of deceased clients for local open-casket viewings. Love that you guys talked about Italian men being hairdressers and barbers!!
Done
I would like to know how much insurance he had
That cop gives zero fucks. I like him.
This guy genuinely thinks Italians had it the worst in history . And that being thought of a gay person scares the fuck out of him lmao
Another thing Italian guys could do-work in a deli/bakery (source my Italian grandpa-that man could cook and was in charge of Christmas cookies for all of my grandparents friends)
It’s ok. Halloween already started at Walmart lol
They have Christmas shit out at WM.
Don't think Betty was part of the plan. Joan thought is she killed hubby Betty would come back. Also, I wasn't allowed to trick or treat, my dad's family thought it was begging.
It seems obvious that Betty was disincentivized from helping the police based on the likely repercussions. I also don’t find it hard to believe Joan convinced herself that eliminating Peter would bring Betty back. This is pretty standard love triangle murder thinking.
I recently read about an 1960s where the female murderer was referred to in the news accounts as "husky"
Kaffeeklatsch is a German word roughly meaning “coffee gossip.” I grew up in Germany in the 70s, and every afternoon on weekdays while the husbands were at work, the “housewives” would meet at a different house each day in the mid afternoon for some coffee and cake, and of course, gossip.
We were required to do Kaffeeklatsch in my college German classes. I hated it. Just let me study weird adjective charts alone in my dorm in peace...
Female friendships can be toxic as hell, you don’t need to be sleeping together. That said, maybe Joan and Betty did have a relationship, or even just Joan wanted to but Betty didn’t, you now have a woman scorned. I feel like Betty leaving and coming back home was about survival, it was very hard to not have a husband in 1957. So she made a choice. Or did she? Come back home, then do away with the husband, you get all the holdings. I don’t think we’ll ever know. I don’t want Betty to have been in on it, but specific lone women were demonized back then, and really still. I don’t want to be on board with that, either.
Lil Goldie was radicalized!
Disagree that Betty was in on it. I think it was pure revenge by Joan.
They drag out the pumpkin spice at the end of July. You’re fine.
Are you kidding? Totally a great time for a Halloween story! In Virginia at least. The decorations are out, just about leather jacket weather.
Id listen to any holiday related episode any day of the year honestly.
It’s never too early for Halloween. Folks wear masks all year long and don’t even get candy for it!
Wooooooooooooooooo
Could you please do a bonus episode on Lucrezia Borgia?
My birthday is tomorrow so I’m really happy with this bonus; feels like a gift! 🍫 🎃
