James is MOSTLY right about women receiving lighter sentences then men ... except for when killing their husbands. Data shows that women often receive longer and harsher prison sentences than men when they kill an intimate partner or spouse. So it's just the same ole same ole that men's lives are considered more valuable. This case is certainly a good example.

Lived in Danville during the early 2000's. Dan River Mills basically ran that town since the 30's or 40's and packed up and left. I've heard it's making a "comeback", but when I left it was an economically depressed shit hole. There were 3 good jobs in the area after the mill went away... Goodyear, Nestlé, or the jail. If you weren't at one of those 3 places your other options were pretty much $9/hr.

So a word on long ass emergency response times. I live in VA and have driven through Pittsylvania County on my way to NC. It is the largest county in VA by area and it sure as hell feels that way when you drive through it. No surprise it takes 20-40 minutes for a first responder to arrive 😮
