Unpopular opinion: I actually ended up respecting Michael at the end of the season. He was honest and didn’t want to drag Joey down with him. Also, I’ve been clean from meth for almost 20 years and Joey’s family made me want to use.

This prompted me to relisten to the other episodes and then start playing this with my sisters in our group chat. My sister thought it sounded interesting, so I sent two sample profiles to show her how the game works. After assessing the two profiles I sent without knowing their crimes, she chose a pedophile over a man who accidentally killed a little girl in a drive-by. My sister was horrified, and asked if she could have a do-over. That is called door #5 (or #3 and #4 in this case). Waiting for her to choose between a more horrific pedophile and a gang member in for murder.

Thrilled to have just found out that all the seasons are free on Tubi here in the UK so I can finally catch up 😂

Full disclosure, I don't watch this show and I'll never watch this show. What I do is, I listen to the guys, then just do an image search for "so and do from season six" if I need to put the garbage to a can. But I absolutely live for these episodes, along with their sister production Prisoner Dating Game. More more more - and as lengthy as they need to be to get it all out there.

Kids can handle being let down on occasion just fine. The repeated letdowns over and over are what fuck kids up. A parent being totally absent isn't as damaging as having one that's a wishy washy flake and can't follow through on plans to save their miserable life.

I watched my first episode of this show because of this podcast. I could not make myself watch past episode 1. I have no desire to use my free time observing these idiots continue to f up their lives. I'd rather watch made up mysteries or police procedurals. However, cudos to you guys for making it seem interesting for a few moments!

So glad there is a part 2! I laughed so loud on my walk, I saw multiple people looking at me. Love after Lock Up is my guiltiest pleasure and I didn’t know about it until they did the bonus episode years ago. So good. I’m a psychiatric NP and find the psychology of these people infinitely fascinating. And agree with James, the ones on the outside are fucked up in completely different and complex ways than the prisoners.

There is so much to unpack with Love After/During Lockup and it's good that the show got back to its roots. They should do a "Best of" retrospective over past seasons. As bad as Julius or Julian is, he's not as bad as Michael the "Devil Dick" guy.

I've got someone close to me who did meth for years, and James is absolutely right. Even clean, they still have those same mannerisms. Meth is the worst of the worst, man.

Why does it feel like the show's target audience now consists of doomers who want their worldview confirmed and Bear from Obsession? I'm sure that's always been the case but AMC/IFC Networks seem to be really pushing for those types lately.

I’ll never have any interest in watching these shows because I both work in a related field and hate “reality” TV, but I can listen to James and Jimmie talk about this for hours. I can’t believe how quickly this episode flew by. I feel like I listened for a half an hour and then must have forgotten to set the clocks ahead another hour.
