For sure thought you’d do the guy that split in half from the groin up after catching the tip of his ski in a snow fence. There’s video. It’s awful. The snow doesn’t turn red, it turns fecal brown almost instantly. He took a little while to die. It’s pretty goddamn horrific.
An atlanto-occipital dislocation is a displacement of the first vertebrae (C1, also called the Atlas, because it holds up the skull) from the occipital area of the skull. Basically the force of the crash twisted her head off her neck, decapitating her without actually separating the head from the body.

An avalanche is my ultimate nightmare. My local ski resort has lost 2 patrollers to avalanches over the last 2 seasons, and while I am not a ski patroller, I work an on-skis job in the winter and the realization that what I’m doing is inherently very dangerous is always in the back of my mind.

People either forget or don't know about Joe Kennedy, Jr. He died at 29 in 1944 when his bomber blew up over England. Joe, Jr was being groomed by Joe Sr to run for POTUS, and his death put the onus on the second son, John and we all know how that ended.
I like how James is describing a skiing accident in terms of how we poors could get hurt similarly by standing in front of a waterslide.
In the part that involved King Charles the woman injured Patricia Palmer Tomkinson, she had a daughter called Tara who was a famous British socialite. Tara once appeared on one of the British motoring shows (either Top Gear or Fifth gear) in her segment she drove one of the presenters (I’m sure it was a guy called Tiff Needel who was a very accomplished racing driver) across London in a Porsche. She drove like and absolute maniac and almost scared the presenter to death, all on open, very busy, London roads. It’s one of the craziest tv show segments I’ve ever seen! On the subject of skiing and racing drivers, I can’t believe there was no mention of Michael Schumacher’s skiing accident, it’s crazy because he is still alive but has never been seen in public again!
I remember her very intoxicated on a couple of comedy panel shows like Would I Lie to You
An honorable mention should go to Michael Schumacher. He was one of the highest paid athletes in history (F1 legend) and is now essentially permanently comatosed from a skiing incident a few years after he retired

Rory Kennedy is an excellent documentary filmmaker. “Ghosts of Abu Ghraib” and the newer doc on Netflix about Boeing, there’s early stuff too that I’m just not thinking of. Her mother was pregnant with her when her father was assasinated, and it was her wedding that JFK Jr was flying to when he crashed.
When I was a teen, I wanted to go snowmobiling when we were on a family ski trip. I got that snowmobile ride… seated behind ski patrol… with my dad, ACL torn to shit, being towed behind us in the sled. Good times.

You would have remembered when. Natasha Richardson died, James, if you had been living here at the time in 2009. Liam Neeson lives in Dutchess County. It was big news here.
I remember when she died so clearly. I don’t know if it was because she and Liam Neeson were such a big deal at that time, but I remember being so upset. It was the week of my 20th birthday. It’s wild what sticks with you.
