Update: 05/10/26
Hello everyone! π
Quick update on where things are headed, because it affects how I develop everything going forward.
The core problem: I get questions about multiple projects every day, and I've been jumping between all of them trying to keep everything usable for everyone. What that's turned into is mods that are 80% error-catching and auto-correction, 20% actual feature. On top of that, intentionally breaking things in every possible way to test all that error handling has turned into a full-time job before I even touch the feature itself. That's not sustainable.
Here's the thing β configuration is a fundamental part of Farming Simulator. Every map, crop, and vehicle requires it. When you add new features, they need configuration too, just like base game features do. Writing code that tries to silently fix every way someone might misconfigure something isn't realistic at scale, and it's been eating into time that should go toward building new things.
So the pivot: I'm narrowing focus rather than spreading thin.
Row Crop System is where I'm starting, since it gets the most traffic. The new beta will likely merge it with related mods β Default Types, PF Config, and/or Foliage Destruction are all candidates. If that happens, the config structure and key names won't change, and only the parts you actually use will run. This mirrors how the base game specialization system works β nothing you have set up will break or need to be redone. You won't have to worry about running two versions like before either. If any of the stand-alone older versions are running, it will disable those features in the new one and alert you. In other words, if I go that route, I'll do it in a way that nothing is lost.
The goal is better performance, fewer compatibility conflicts, easier management, and more time to focus on the actual features. I have some things in the newer codebase that should make that possible. I'll get into the technical side of that in a separate post β this one's already long enough.
More details when the new beta kicks off, which should be soon.
Later!
