As someone in their 20s (albeit late 20s) this show is such a breath of fresh air. It’s cozy, and heartfelt, and funny, and fun. I have put my partner onto it and two of my friends and so far all good reviews from them. It isn’t as distressing as something like JJK, but it hits my emotions all the same. I cry at the most innocuous things in this show. I just think this show requires an intentional audience. It’s not going to distract with glitz and glam. You just need to tuck yourself into a warm cozy soup that is this show.
I think Frieren genuinely views seemingly simple everyday spells like cleaning bronze or doing laundry as legendary. Despite all her skill in combat, she is as Flamme said, a mage for an era of peace.
A fun little bit from the credits montage of this episode that ties together a few seemingly unrelated lines from earlier episodes, is the mage Ehre, from Wirbel's party, was hanging out with Lernen, Serie's apprentice to who tried to kill Frieren. When Ehre was fighting Fern, she said it was like fighting her grandfather. By which she means, not just like fighting an old guy, but specifically her actual grandfather Lernen, a highly skilled first class mage. He was also mentioned as the one who made the escape golems in the second test, which is why there was the weird bit at the end of the episode where they finished the dungeon and she was bragging about how great the golems where and Richter was like "Who are you?"
The one who was talking about how cool the golems are was Edel, the hypnotist, not Ehre. But yeah Ehre's grandfather being Lernen is a blink and you'll miss it moment in the credits montage.
So, the cool thing about frieren is that they are adapting every chapter of the manga so every twelve minutes of the show is one chapter. It's been pretty spot on so far.
