1 Minute Jam: Phrygian Dominant
1 Minute Jams is my series of super fun, bitesized exercises aimed exclusively at intermediate guitarists - each with a unique theme to challenge all facets of your playing!
For today's episodes we're taking a look at one of the most popular and important scales in Metal: Phrygian Dominant. Unlike the regular Phrygian mode, which is a minor scale and has a more Spanish/Flamenco kinda sound, Phrygian Dominant is a major scale and has that signature Egyptian/Middle-Eastern vibe. Whether you're riffing or soloing, it's extremely important you understand this scale and when/how to use it!
In this jam we're looking at 5 different applications of it and taking a deep-dive into the theory behind it, and what its core chords and intervals are.
Good luck and don't forget to share your progress with everyone in the Discord server!
