An insane twist of fate on my most unpredictable adventure yet.. [Roll The Dice Part 2]

My most unpredictable adventure yet continues and we resume things about 19 fields east of Lullington in search of some order and progress. What ensues is a remarkable twist of fate, followed by a few cruel ones. But when all is said and done, will my trusty die bring me and my rumbling stomach to the village i so desperately crave? or will it toss me into more chaos...

This just hit me. You are starting at the wrong end. instead of going somewhere, you should start somewhere unknown and let the dice guide you home. Now That would be an adventure. .. the dice might never take you home . you could be rolling dice 'till the end of time.

I love the concept and how it is rigid some times ! Nevertheless, you could implement 3 Jokers for the entire adventure i.e: - reroll - décision A is 1-4 and B is 5-6 - décision A is 1-5 and B is 6

Really enjoying this series. One thing I thought of to perhaps give more chance of interactions, seeing places etc. Could you do this but weight it so roads have more chance of being rolled than a footpath? i.e. Road 1-4, footpath 5-6. Means it is still fate, but give opportunties to run into people and places

I would say have a defined start and finish point but roll the dice to decide how to cross an obstacle that come your way. Roll to decide if you get to walk across the bridge or have to swim across the river. Do you jump the fence or have to walk around it? Maybe you have to walk or run a particular segment.

Great video as always Tom. I have a suggestion that may improve the adventure. Allow yourself an adventurer’s edge on every dice roll. I.e. on each roll you get to favor a certain path. So on a two choice roll, you would give your preferred route 1-4 on the dice, on a three choice path it could go 1-3, 4-5, and 6 for the least desirable. This way every roll leans toward a better adventure while still allowing a bit of mayhem. Additionally you could make a similar rule to automatically reduce odds for a track you’ve already gone down, but I like the idea of eliminating them entirely better. Makes it more about the adventure and less about rolling dice imo!

Just a thought, try the Hiiker app, it has multiple maps inc OS & historical maps even Lidar and a crazy amount of very useful features.

maybe create 6 starting locations and 6 starting gears and you roll a dice twice to see sorta where you'd "spawn" in and with what gear? There could be 6 challenges as well and you roll to see what challenge your mission would have on top of being a dice adventure

Love it! Start in Aberdeenshire next time!

Great concept! Perhaps a nice rule would be to not go down the same road twice to prevent the nonsense of going around in circles in a field :D

My suggestions would be to just keep it to directions rather then every decision like talking to people. And also if you wanted to slightly skew the odds instead of giving even odds to every direction instead allow yourself to assign more numbers to particular directions (still keeping at least 1 number on every direction), that would still allow for random backtracks but reduce the odds, or if that’s too far maybe only allow that if you are back at a junction you have been to before to encourage new locations.

Brilliant! Possible variation for future editions: Only roll the die if you're not sure where to go / what to do. This way you still can go where you want and won't end up doing circles. Also bring something like a dice box , so you can do the roll in there instead of the road.

I think maybe you give yourself 3 overrides. or maybe it's not every time you HAVE to roll. but implementing it in some decisions for adventure.. I feel like it can be frustrating also as a viewer if you go backwards. I think the concept is fun, but it has to have some wiggle room. like imagine rolling to enter a pub and you're starving but it's a no and it effectively ends the mission rather than letting it go on. I feel like there's something to work on here.

I was wondering if an app to roll the dice might be more convenient (and easier to film) but the unquestionable result of a dice roll feels more like fate! You could always just shake it in your hand and reveal it on the back of your other hand haha

This is such a fun idea for an adventure! Maybe you already considered it, but a simple way you could make sure the journey always progresses is to only consider roads going in certain compass directions, for example north and east. Roads going south or west would be ignored. Then you will never end up going in a loop (unless a road curves back on itself!). I think this preserves the spirit of the adventure while hopefully reducing the number of times that you need to check a map or go back where you came from, and it could even be done with a physical compass.
