Tudor Castles, Trapped Sheep & Total Exhaustion [Shropshire #2]
Afternoon Patreons! Sorry this is slightly later than planned. Had to go film another adventure last week which delayed editing. $4 video also ready and will be with you tomorrow.
**GOOD SUBTITLES AVAILABLE**
My quasi-medieval adventure continues and concludes here with what promised to be a grueling trek to the Welsh border to successfully cross Shropshire using only footpaths... kind of.
We resume things in the garden shed of Stanton Lacy village hall (which I've since learned is bizarrely 3 miles from the actual village of Stanton Lacy) having taken refuge there from an ominous thunderstorm.
What lay beyond was 28 more miles of the most gorgeous, Tolkien-esque landscapes you can imagine, and while the footpaths would improve massively, the tasks at hand seemed to get no easier. A mission to Stokesay castle for a magical SD card kicked things off, then another lamb required rescuing, and in the final few miles the adventure took on a whole new form; my weary frame pushed to the absolute limit in a bid to reach the border in time for a ticket home.

Tom have you ever thought about getting a follow me drone like a DJI Neo? I think it could really add a lot to videos like these
Maybe a good combination of your adventurous spirit and natural charisma would be to walk from farm-to-farm or village-to-village and ask around if anyone needs help with a menial task. Shearing sheep or changing a tractor tire, or even just fetching the post for nan something. Just a whole mission of impromptu side-quests. Anyway great video, glad you didn't have heat stroke
Me and a mate did a Shropshire 2-day adventure a few years back just north of your route. It's honestly one of the most stunning places in the UK and it really surprised us both and he's a Peak District local. He did a video on it here for anyone that's interested in that route: https://youtu.be/aQLvnBAJ_a4?si=6P4tI855Hpt_hh3L Loved this series Tom.
Very cool video and concept. I would love to see you explore more of England in such a "low stakes" but still appealing mission style. Also I have to let you know that I still love your 16 Bit Adventure Album it's such a great backdrop for your adventures.
Nice one Tom, you looked totally fucked towards the end, glad you pulled through. Is there anything you could've done before a trip like this to help you along the way, tash some food or water just incase?
Save yourself some future stress and have a standard packing list based on the different types of adventure you do — SD card for country no roads, tetanus shot for urban no roads, jelly babies and gloves for straight line and pepper spray for Austrian sleepovers.
Nice work Tom - clearly ruddy hard work at the end...
Bishops Castle is a place I have spent loads of time over the year with family living there. There are loads of good pubs. You got dropped off at the bottom of my Grans old street. 😊
Just recently joined your patreon! Been watching since the first wales straight line and you've been an inspiration in many ways. Looking forward to checking out this new mission of yours
Thanks Tom, another great adventure. Did the $4 video get published? Not sure if I missed it or just delayed?
Publishing today Matt.
Amazing video!
Hi Tom, I’ve been a Patreon supporter for a long time, but for convenience's sake, I’m thinking about switching my support over to YouTube Memberships. Since I’ve already caught up on all the past exclusives here, I was wondering: is there any actual benefit to subscribing to the higher price tier on YT, other than just supporting you more? I know that right now, older Patreon videos are being released retroactively over on YT. But what happens once those run out? Will new exclusive videos only be available to the higher tier, or will the lower tier get them as well? To be honest, I find having different price tiers on YouTube a bit confusing. I feel like the way it was handled here on Patreon was much more straightforward. Would be great to get some clarification on how the YouTube tiers will work moving forward. Thanks for all the great content!
Once everything has been released on YT members, both Patreon and YT Members will be exactly the same in terms of content, tier benefits, and almost identical in terms of how much I will receive once each platform takes their cut. If anything Patreon has a few more bits and bobs that I don't deem worthy of posting on YT members but you've probably already seen them.
Loved that Tom. I live in Australia now, I miss the English countryside so much. I’d love to see another Shropshire one. The place is beautiful 🏴
I do really enjoy these! I wish we had footpaths and such villages in our country!
I wasn’t expecting to be hit with a wave of childhood memories. My grandparents used to own that cottage you passed in Culmington around the 10 minute mark.
Amazing! Still watching but we will be driving through the same area on our UK visit and I already saved Stokesay Castle as a visit stop on my map!
What were you planning on doing with the eggs if you had actually found some?
I live near Shropshire, it would be great if you could start tracking your trips maybe on Strava etc, and make them public so others could walk the same route as you on all your trips like this! (minus the hedge hopping)
Great little 2 parter… I’m always so taken aback by how well structured and narrated your videos are. I play guitar for a hiphop band called OMA and handle all of our video production, editing etc. Watching your videos, I have so many questions about your personal process. I’d love to see an in-depth video on camera gear choices, editing process and ethos, software etc. It’d be a real treat !! Also, your music choices in this video were awesome and super interesting. Were they tracks you were a fan of beforehand or chose specifically for this video ? Sorry for the waffle. Looking forward to the next video!!
Thank you for the video! Long-time fan and supporter here, from Czechia. I always love your outdoor videos - the fun commentary and the music make them an ideal way for me to unwind and relax. Keep it up.
How do you do your shout outs? I live right there! I would have happily picked you up and taken you back to the car. Please get in touch if you come back to the Welsh border. That said I'm now feeling smug about you waxing lyrical about the very countryside I live in. I made a good choice when I left London 8 years ago 😀
Glad it ended well good man for helping the sheep
What is the software used at 20:12 with the topography and map combined? That is an amazing tool I really need! 😮
os maps
That was grand, very well done on completing the adventure and good for you for saving yet another sheep - that poor thing could have easily died there after days of suffering if the farmer didn't check on his flock daily.
Would love to see another adventure in Shropshire mate. There are quite a few WW2 airfields about so that could put a difference spin with history / urban / countryside mix
Yes sir best late night pull! Big love from New Zealand 🇳🇿
Great!! Another one, can't wait I’ve been following your YouTube channel for a very long time and I’ve also been a supporter through your Patreon for quite some time. Recently, I’ve noticed that videos are appearing in the YouTube Premium/members-only section. I was wondering what this means for Patreon supporters. Will new content still be posted on Patreon, or is YouTube becoming the main platform for exclusive content from now on? I really enjoy supporting your work, but I would prefer not to pay for both Patreon and a YouTube membership. Could you let me know which option is the best way to continue supporting you and getting access to your extra content? Thanks for all the great videos over the years. Keep up the amazing work!
The YouTube members content is just videos that have already been made available to Patreon members.
That's tonight sorted! Thank you!
Tonight's viewing sorted
Thank you Tom!
Was waiting for this video! Going to enjoy this one :D
Perfect timing
